And it's theoretically achievable! Several species of North American Horned Lizard have evolved to shoot blood from the corners of their eyes as a defense mechanism, with shots travelling up to 5 feet. I'm sure our resident mad scientists could easily take that trait and adapt it to shoot ink or other substances.
