Description X-Factor protΓ©gΓ©s, X-Terminators and New Mutants Russell Collins and Sally Blevins (former morlock, but a cute one).

As a 17 year old navy trainee, Rusty accidentally burned someone when his powers first manifested themselves... "Mutant hunter" agency X-Factor found him and helped him learn control.

Skids met X-Factor right on time to be spared from the mutant massacre that killed almost everyone else in the Alley.

Rusty and Skids were an item back then, until Rusty died in the Acolytes of Magneto's space base, Avalon, murdered by an alternate timeline son of Apocalypse, but not before screwing Skids, so don't feel too bad for him.

BTW, I've found out the search feature does not return any of my pics in its results... This sucks, and the FAQ only says that this search functionality is new, and it's expected to not work properly (they said not all the items would be searchable yet).

Anyway, I'll list the keywords I used in this pic, so, if you want, you can help me determine if the pics are being ignored. Thanks.

I miss Rusty...

I do, too. He had done a good job growing up from a selfish guy to a hero-type. Then came Stryfe, then Magneto, then Holocaust...

Beautiful!Β  The characters are both a little thin in the waist, but otherwise this is a flawlessly authentic depiction of these two under-appreciated mutants.Β  You have Skids's outfit rendered beautifully, right down to the folds in her jacket and the slack in her oversized gloves.Β  Rusty's facial expression is terrific: adoring, yet suave and confident.Β  Skids could have used more attention there, as she's a bit expressionless.Β  Nonetheless, the drawing resonates with an adorable romantic vibe.Β  I like the detail put into the scenery too, particularly the carving in the tree.

The X-Terminators series is one of my favorites; it's a shame that once it was over Rusty, Skids, and Wiz Kid got dropped to the wayside.Β  Sure they made additional appearances, but X-Terminators was the last time their characters were developed at all.Β  Thanks for providing this bit of attention to two characters who haven't gotten much of that in a few decades!Β  Since Rusty and Skids never got the time for straightforward romance in the comics, this is a much-appreciated supplement.

Thanks! I tended to draw extra thin characters some years ago. Still do, but I think they are a little better now.

I really like how Bog draws. I have seen some people dislike him, but I look at how he handles anatomy and facial expressions and can only love it. I just had to try and be faithful to his designs.

I got to know Rusty first from the New Mutants and X-Terminators. I was surprised when I read his debut later. He was such a stupid bigot first. But he got better as he was exposed to Artie and other mutants, and understood the situation better. Too bad the violence and shock era had no place for him besides being a brainwashed terrorist twice and then dying...

It would be interesting to see him now (on recent years, when Cyclops took over). While the New Mutants are the heirs of Xavier's dream (along with the X-Men), there was a time when Rusty and Skids could be seen as the heirs to Scott and Jean.

You know it's funny.Β  I thought Bogdavone's work on the X-Tinction Agenda was hideous - and looking back at it years later, I still think it's hideous.Β  But I completely adore his work on X-Terminators.Β  I still get the giggles just thinking about the scene where Tabitha picks out their costumes.

And yeah, killing off Rusty struck me as short-sighted.Β  He and Skids would have fit in well with the modern academy scene, but but neither character has as much potential without the other.

I think he worked best on teens and kids (like Power Pack), and he seemed to enjoy more light hearted action, which allowed him to play.

For Skids to have potential now (without Rusty), they should define who she is and what moves her. She is now not Morlock enough nor X-Man enough nor SHIELD enough, which could be fine if we knew what she is exactly. Do not just leave her there as something to be used when there is no one else to kill.

That happened to me when I uploaded a drawing of Grace Choi from the Outsiders. She doesn't come up at all in the results, and there aren't that many pics of Grace to begin with.

I love this. I always enjoyed them as a couple, and I loved the issue when they finally kissed after tangling with Masque. It was always funny to me that initially, Rusty's costume only really consisted of the shirt to one of the X-Factor uniforms worn over a pair of regular khakis.

Nice work. Thanks for sharing it with us, man.

I guess I could have made Rusty more square-jawed and less thin... That way they'd look better.

Thanks for liking .

Interesting, Is Rusty one of the few characters who died and remains dead or has he been brought back yet?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cesar-Hernandez In reply to zippymax [2010-05-16 00:01:53 +0000 UTC]

As far as I know, he remains dead. They use the fact he is dead to make Skids interesing (instead of making her interesting in her own right, as they should).

zippymax In reply to Cesar-Hernandez [2010-05-16 18:30:57 +0000 UTC]

MY guess is, it's because people see her as a weaker version of the Invisible woman, so she's not considered a very good character, but as far as I'm concerned, not EVERY mutant has to be a living GOD (Or GODDESS!) to be interesting! Since the only reason they have powers in the FIRST place is because of a genetic quirk, they're lucky to have any really impressive powers AT ALL!

I had guessed it was because (after a while) Rusty and Skids were being handled as the perfect kids, responsible, strong and attractive.

Ugh, I HATE when that happens! Bad enough when the creative team screws up good characters, but when the fans do it? Ohhhhh... (Sorry for the late reply.)

Very nice drawing, and cute too
BTW, I was searching for "x-men +acolytes" and this came out amongst the (very few) results. DA search can be so weird...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cesar-Hernandez In reply to LadyMadCat [2007-02-10 22:59:36 +0000 UTC]

Not weird. Rusty and Skids did belong to Maggie's Acolytes in the nineties. That's how what happened to Rusty came to pass ...

Thanks for liking it .

LadyMadCat In reply to Cesar-Hernandez [2007-02-10 23:12:36 +0000 UTC]

I do know they used to be Acolytes, and how poor Rusty has died
It seems the DA search engine doesn't return the results based on your given keywords, but on the words used in the description?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cesar-Hernandez In reply to LadyMadCat [2007-02-10 23:47:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. The keywords and title do weigh more, but the description words are included, too. I read that at the FAQ some time ago.
