Build a cathedral is expensive due to materials like marble is needed in huge quantities, and also the relics and religious items that are invaluable. would be more economical to build a building with all the modern luxuries and amenities.

Hmmm yes, ... And maybe it is more of an issue of "return on investment"... I didnt think of that.  It can't be rented out to corporations or tenants, and it doesn't produce enough revenue to justify the cost.  You are right I think
