"The Ritual" ("El Ritual" en español) es una historia que cree a raíz del final de Over the Garden Wall. El argumento se basaría en que, después de todos los acontecimientos de la serie, la Bestia ha muerto, y por lo tanto los árboles de Edelwood son libres, no tienen ningún dueño. Y el hecho de que el bosque sea libre y la Bestia no esté rondando por ahí parece bueno a primera vista, ¿no? Pues no lo es. Edelwood, al haber sido creado a partir de niños inocentes está bastante furioso. Por eso y por los años de creación y de tala de la misma especie. De modo que pretende consumir toda vida que haya a su alrededor, acabando con todo el bosque de lo Desconocido. Y eso cuenta también detrás del muro, así que hablaríamos de un desastre escala mundial. La única persona que ha notado que algo no iba bien era la hija del leñador, Elise. Y sabe que las cosas no marchan porque estuvo transformada en un árbol de Edelwood mucho tiempo y tiene un vínculo muy estrecho con el bosque. Por ello, la única solución viable es realizar un Ritual de cambio de poder, en el que la Bestia traspase sus poderes a la mejor candidata, la propia Elise. Pero en el Ritual deben estar presentes los 6 Dones del Bosque, que fueron repartidos a la muerte de la Bestia. Y aquí es donde entra la caballería:

Wirt: representa el ciclo del otoño y del invierno, muy necesarios en un bosque. Wirt de repente se encuentra con que, si se concentra, puede hacer crecer ramas de árbol a su alrededor y manejarlas a su antojo. El problema es que tardan un rato en crecer, pero son más resistentes. Pese a todo, Wirt no quiere saber nada de esto, ya que las circunstancias lo están llevando a lo Desconocido y es un sitio al que preferiría no volver, de modo que hace caso omiso a su don. Su árbol afín es el arce.

Greg: representa el ciclo de la primavera y del verano, contrario al de su hermano mayor. A Greg, en cambio, el hecho de poder hacer crecer ramitas le parece muy divertido, así que intenta mejorarlo cada vez más, sin hacer caso a las reprimendas de Wirt. Las ramas que crea Greg aparecen muy rápido, pero se consumen antes y no son tan fuertes. Su árbol afín es el roble, aunque las ramas que suele crear no se asemejan a las del árbol, ya que no duran tanto como para crecer igual.

Beatrice: representa a los animales que habitan en el bosque. ¿Quién mejor que ella que ha sido un azulejo durante un tiempo? Pues no le hace ninguna gracia. Le parece una broma cruel, después de estar tanto tiempo buscando una solución a la maldición que pesaba sobre ella y sobre toda su familia, que sin previo aviso le aparezcan alas de nuevo. Conserva las tijeras de Adelaide, pero si se corta las alas, aparecen al rato sin avisar, así que Bea se pasa el día en el bosque, sin que su familia sepa lo que le sucede, hasta que ella misma encuentre la forma de deshacerse de sus nuevas alas.

Lorna: representa la vida que nace de la muerte, como cuando de un árbol muerto crece uno nuevo o las semillas que hay dentro de una fruta germinan en la fruta muerta. A simple vista parece un don muy poco servicial, y ella no parece notar diferencias. Ningún poder especial ni ninguna afinidad extraña. Solo cuando pierde la calma o se enfurece de verdad, se puede ver el cambio. Aunque el espíritu que la atormentaba desde niña se hubiera esfumado, había estado tanto tiempo dentro de Lorna que había pasado a formar parte de ella misma. De modo que si pierde los estribos cae en un sueño muy profundo y el espíritu toma el control de su cuerpo.

Jason Funderberker: al contrario que Lorna, representa la vida después de la muerte. Él y Sara se ven envueltos en esta locura al haber estado directamente conectados con la decisión de los hermanos de saltar al otro lado del muro, ya que si Jason y Sara no hubieran visto la cinta, Wirt nunca habría saltado al otro lado. Jason tiene la extraña cualidad de ver las almas en pena de los árboles de Edelwood, y al parecer, es el único que ve a los fantasmas en su verdadera naturaleza. Mientras que los demás alcanzan a ver masas violetas que lloran, el ve niños de cuerpo entero que suplican por el descanso eterno y ser liberados de sus cárceles de madera.

Sara: representa esa parte mágica que poseen todos los bosques, siendo el contrario de Beatrice. Todos los bosques necesitan una bruja que canalice la magia para que no se destruya a sí mismo. A Sara casi le toco por sorteo este papel, ya que más lejos del muro eso de la magia no es algo nato, pero Sara es lista y aprende rápido, de modo que está en su mano la parte de los hechizos y pociones. Enoch es el que tomará el papel de su mentor, ya que fue el gato de Adelaide en secreto y tiene muchos ases bajo la manga.

Anna Elise: candidata a "bestia", es la única capaz de sobrevivir a un cambio de poder de ese calibre. Al tener un padre leñador y haberse criado en un bosque, puede ser, junto a Lorna, la más conocedora en el grupo de árboles, plantas, senderos, animales, etc. Elise creció sin su madre, pero su padre la crió con todo el cariño que pudo. Desconoce cualquier dato sobre su nacimiento o sobre su madre, y su padre se niega a hablar del tema. Esto llevó a Elise a buscar respuestas por su parte. Lo que no sabía era que las respuestas se las iba a dar la Bestia de la que tanto había oído hablar. Es capaz de hacer crecer de manera moderada cualquier tipo de planta, aunque sus favoritas son las Desconocidas, las flores autóctonas.

Bestia: como es una sombra, una vez apagada la luz de su alma desapareció sin dejar rastro. Claro que una huella de desesperación sí que dejó. La Bestia es la parte más importante de todo el Ritual, ya que sin él no hay cambio de poder. De modo que Elise tuvo que poner todos sus esfuerzos para encender la linterna de nuevo sin tener el alma de la Bestia cerca. El problema es que cuando lo consiguió, la Bestia no despertó al instante a su lado, sino que comenzaron a aparecer monstruos por todo el bosque, monstruos como el perro que se comió la tortuga negra.

"The Ritual" is a story I create following the end of Over the Garden Wall. The argument would be based on that after all the events of the show, the Beast is dead, and therefore Edelwood trees are free, have no owner. And the fact that the forest is free and the Beast is not hanging around looks good at first glance, right? Well it is not. Edelwood, having been created out of innocent children is quite furious. For that and for the years of creation and the cut down of the same trees. So Edelwood wants to consume all life has around him, destroying the entire forest of the Unknown. That account also behind the wall, so we speak of a disaster worldwide. The only person who has noticed that something was wrong was the daughter of the woodsman, Elise. And he knows that things don't go because she was transformed into an Edelwood tree long time and has a very close relationship with the forest. Sara almost play this role by lot, because behind the wall, magic is not a born gift, but Sara's smart and fast learner, so is in her hand the spells and potions' part. Enoch is the one who will take the role of his mentor, because he secretly was the cat of Adelaide and has many aces up its sleeve.

Anna Elise: candidate for "beast", she is the only one who can survive a change of power of that caliber. Having a woodsman father and growing up in a forest, she can be next to Lorna, the most knowledgeable in the group of trees, plants, trails, animals, etc. Elise grew up without his mother, but his father raised her with all the love as he could. She don't have any information about his birth or his mother, and his father refuses to talk about it. This led Elise to find answers by herself. What she didn't know was that the answers she wants are going to give by the Beast that she had heard. So Elise had to put all his efforts to turn on the lantern again without the soul of the Beast nearby. The problem is that when she got it, the Beast did not wake instantly at her side, but monsters began to appear in all the forest, monsters like the dog who ate the black turtle.
