Just a little something fun to try to get myself back in the mood to draw. I stopped drawing again for a few reasons, and have been having a *lot* of trouble staying focused on *anything* lately (long story). I whipped this out in a couple hours (it’s full of mistakes – but it was mainly just to get me to loosen up and have some much-needed fun). I wasn’t even sure how I would finish it until I just grabbed a pencil and started drawing with it instead of ink. I even originally thought I would do a more cartoony style, but I guess I like using this style of mine for drawing the dwarves now.Anyway, I thought it might be fun to have an image to share with friends when they had birthdays or when they just needed a big slice of cake. So here is Thorin, mistaking a cake for an orc.
Sketched first in blue pencil, then finished with 2H and 6B art pencils on sketchbook paper. The drawing was then photographed in B&W.
Edited 7/17/14: Replaced the old photograph with a scan.

There are a lot of features with dwarves that I adore, but I found I love drawing his boots especially! I can practically hear them in my mind, stomp stomp clomp! And good point! Maybe it's red velvet cake, and that looked strange to him. Take that, cake!

yes the boots do look awesome! I can imagine it all too, all of the proportions and everything are so precise that I can imagine him just like that XD I love the armor :3 and the fur.... awwww it's just so good! ...really not the guy you'd ask to cut the cake at a party XD

Unless that was part of the party entertainment, and the *real* cake was in another room for after the cake-splattering mess he'd make (you'd just have to make sure he didn't misunderstand and go for that one too). Heheheh! Yes, I have to admit, I'll probably always draw him with at least some fur, if not the whole fur pelt outfit. It's just too much fun, and I love the "bison" look he's been described as having.

Haha yeah, it might just drive him mad and he'd be unleashed and go on a cake culling rampage! (very gory indeed!, cake, icing and jam everywhere!). Ah the fur looks lovely, I love drawing it too, and he really suits it. Aww I didn't know people said that he had a "bison" look, but now that you've said it I see it, he really does ^^

I think Richard Armitage especially used that description of a bison... it surprised me when I first heard it, but then I realized what he meant by it. Richard really seemed to love wearing the fur when he could to get into the role, and I admit it would feel so weird to draw Thorin without it.

Awww he's awesome, yeah. haha yeah I remember him saying that if he could he would have hair that long as well because he loved it, and him and his pony would have a thing where they'd both swish their hair together, haha so cute :3 yeah it's weird seeing him without his fur cloak, even as an actor. When I see him I'm just like "hmmm... something's missing" *places imaginary cloak over him* "that's better". I just love his long cloak XD
