Postnatal Mitosis: Triple Double Study

This story was inspired by the Postnatal Mitosis short stories from tolchok on Blueversusred.net, who can also be found on Deviantart under the name ndrly. I posted it months ago, but figured it should be here too.

Jennifer calmly walked across campus, the wind quietly blowing at her long blonde hair and jacket. Her other "sisters" were at the university library studying for upcoming finals, and she was asked to bring some food for the rest of them.

Jennifer A arrived at one of the many private study rooms at her school library, where she saw her 2 identical sisters diligently working at the long study table. One Jennifer was both trying to solve some calculus work together, while another Jennifer was writing an essay on her laptop. Just like her, they were all wearing yellow tank top shirts, jeans, and simple tennis shoes, with all their jackets off and hanging on their chairs.

It had only been a couple of weeks since her mitosis occurred, but it still felt crazy knowing that she essentially became her own set of triplets. She hadn't talked with them how they were feeling about it since the experience, but she decided it was safe to assume they had shared similar thoughts to hers.

"Sorry about that, there was a long line." Jennifer said as she placed the box of food on the table.

"Ah, don't worry about it. What matters is that the food is here." Jennifer B happily replied.

"It is so nice to have reliable study partners for once." Jennifer C added.

The three Jennifers decided now was a good time to have a lunch break, seeing that they had been studying for 2 hours now.

Jennifer had been diagnosed with Postnatal Mitosis 2 months into her first year at university, when she began suffering from continuous stress and exhaustion from her class overload. In her first semester at the university, Jennifer chose to take a few extra courses, believing she could handle the workload and therefore, be able to finish her GE requirements faster. Unfortunately, she soon realized that college classes were taking more of a toll on her than she first thought. It felt as if she was swamped every day with some huge assignment or project that took hours at time to complete. This overload of work culminated to a boiling point a few days after she suffered through her midterm week, where she passed out in the school library from exhaustion and got rushed to the health center, where she safely recovered and later received news of her diagnosis.

Upon learning about this, Jennifer felt like a miracle had been dropped right into her arms. She realized she would be getting at least 1 extra helping hand for the insane workload her classes kept giving her. Unfortunately, her mind was also racing with questions about school fees, and what the university policies were for those who split during school.

However, much to her surprise and delight, her university was actually very generous to those dealing with postnatal mitosis. Since postnatals are listed as sharing a single identity, all financial payments for them will be treated as if they were still a single individual, meaning no additional payments were needed for the new clones. Additionally, Jennifer also learned that during class registration for next semester, if at least 1 of her was registered in a class, all her other selves would automatically be enrolled as well. If necessary, she would also receive grade leniency in her classes to give her time to acclimate with her new partners when they showed up.

The split had occurred less than a week after the diagnosis. Jennifer was up late on a Friday night at home trying to complete an essay and prepare for a test monday. Once she realized the split was going to happen, she quickly undressed, climbed into bed and braced herself. She had been told it was a mostly painless, but it felt oddly soothing when the mess of limbs and heads began appearing on her. After a few hours, the mitosis had completed, with 3 identical Jennifers lying in their bedroom together.

It still felt surreal for her to see herself from an outside angle. After getting over the initial shock of now having 2 new "sisters", the following days were spent figuring out their new class arrangements and setting up new beds for everyone. It was then that Jennifer realized how efficient three of her were when working together. Not only did her crazy workload stop being an issue, she also started having personal time again. She couldn't really explain it, but it was almost like she was mentally synced up with her twins, and their ability to tackle everything from in-class work to tough projects seemed like clockwork. It made her feel comfort and joy to see herself be such a hard working student from an outside perspective.

"Are you okay Jennifer?" Jennifer B asked.

Jennifer A turned to her side and saw her 2 sisters were eyeing her curiously.

"Is there something on your mind right now? Your showing your spacey look again." Jennifer C inquired.

"Sorry, i've just been thinking about how different things have become with all of us."

"What do you mean by that?" They asked with curiosity.

"It just feels crazy that not even two weeks ago, I was stressing out hard about my schedule and wanted to take a break from it all. But of a sudden, things have become so much more relaxed because of our teamwork tackling everything. And I couldn't help but appreciate all of you for the hard work you've done and helped us feel more happier now."

The other Jennifers gave her a smile of happiness and appreciation, which gave Jennifer A a sense of gratitude in herself. Jennifer C then abruptly got up from her seat and walked over to Jennifer A and sat on the chair next to her, giving a look of gratitude to her.

"You know, if anything, I think all of us deserve some appreciation for what we've managed to accomplish as a group. You deserve thanks and appreciation too, you know?"

Jennifer A then abruptly got pulled into a long hug by Jennifer C, which came as a surprise to her and the other 2 Jennifers. This was the first time that any of them gave friendly comfort like this to one another, as Jennifer was not really someone that talked about personal issues with other people. Yet somehow, her time spent with her sisters was causing something to stir within herself, but she didn't want to jump to conclusions so fast.

"I think I speak for all of us when I say thank you for all your work, Jennifer", Jennifer C spoke, and immediately gave a quick kiss on the neck to Jennifer A. All of the Jennifers were then smiling and blushing hard, as they realized that every single one of were beginning to have the same thoughts about what was coming next.

Out of nowhere, the door to their room opened, revealing a pair of twin girls and Jennifers' close friend(s), Heather. The 2 close Jennifers quickly separated themselves and moved back to their seats.

Like her, she was also a hardworking student who experienced postnatal mitosis a few months ago, only splitting into twins instead of triplets. They were both wearing their usual green shirts and black sweat pants, with their hair tied in ponytails. Although she was more of a college athlete, she studied with Jennifer every now and again.

"Sorry Jennifer, we completely forgot about our study meet today." "What did we miss?"

"You're fine Heather. We were just doing essay writing and math. You should be able to catch up easily."

With that, the girls eventually got back to their usual study routine. "By the way, we saw your kiss earlier." One of the Heathers slyly brought up. "Getting romantic with yourself, I see."

All the Jennifers' faces were flush with embarrassment. "It's not like that!", getting a big laugh out of the twins.
