The Women's 115 lb. MMA championship bout started in a flurry of activity and cheers. Gracie James took a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu advantage into every match she fought, but even she couldn't deny that Jillian's wrestling acumen posed a fascinating threat. Gracie raised her hands and parried the first of Jillian's strikes, happy to exchange strikes with the fiery junior. Neither woman ever notched a KO victory and Gracie saw no reason to take the #3 fighter's striking seriously until forced to. Instead she strafed around the ring, biding her time and waiting for her shot.
The two women traded punches and kicks, disengaging in between flurries. Gracie thought she was landing the cleaner, harder shots, especially after a nice one-two and kick seemed to make the younger woman think twice about marching forward. The confident redhead bounced in her stance and considered her next approach. Jillian advanced, tight and low, and when Gracie misjudged the range of her left hook by an inch, the scrappy wrestler was on her faster than memes on the internet. The Auburn product moved to stifle the ensuing clinch but instead ate two knees and a left hook into her ribs. More concerning however, was how quickly she felt the cold sting of the cage fence against the small of her back. Who had she run out of real estate so quickly? Had she misjudged the distance or grown complacent?
It didn't matter. All that mattered was the present.
Jillian Wolf snaked her calf around the svelte senior's ankle and pushed, sending them both toppling backwards.
"Still feeling calm? Or can you feel that championship slipping away? She menaced.
The takedown hadn't been clean, but it'd been enough to bring the fight where she wanted it. She'd take her chances in a phone booth firefight with anyone in the NCAA, especially this overconfident Southern gal. All that remained was to work the position and do what came naturally.
Gracie gritted her teeth and defended herself as best she could, fending off the Oregon junior's assault. Jillian might not be much of a striker, but laid halfway across the older grappler and sitting in her half guard, Jillian Wolf's punches and elbows packed significantly more sting. Gracie postured up, twisting to sit up against the cage. She needed to do more than just defend herself though; she needed to threaten this cocky junior and remind her and the judges why she'd been a near unanimous pick for #1 ranked Strawweight.
