Jillian Wolf heard her coach but didn't need to. She was gonna dump this cocky brunette on her head like she'd done for 2 straight rounds. She was up two rounds, everyone knew it, and all that remained was to smother this flailing paper champ. The Auburn product's 8-1 record was as inflated as her submission skills and Jillian aimed to prove it once and for all.

Gracie hadn't been as eager to trade punches in the 3rd and final round; Jilian observed that her opponent had finally realized the threat her wrestling presented. She stepped into a combo of her own and even landed flush with the kick at the end, but punching a girl's lights out felt better when you were sitting on her chest, driving the air and the fight out of her.

Instead Gracie seemed timid, as if she was waiting for something.

"Play it safe!" Her coach yelled, but Jillian couldn't, wouldn't. She was here to win, not to coast.

The underdog was still the one pushing the pace, clearly hunting for another smothering takedown a minute into the round. Jilian turned a left hook into a clinch attempt, but felt hands around her thighs instead as she reached to corral the shorter senior. It happened so fast that she hardly had time to process that she was the one on her back as the two women collapsed in a heap on the mat to the shocked cheers of the crowd outside the cage.

"I'm not gonna lay down for you." Gracie growled.

"It's not gonna make a difference. I'm still gonna lay you out!" Jilian barked. She'd been here before, on her back and on the defense. There were steps to follow and risks to control, just as soon as she could wrench her arm free. She felt one gloved hand clasp her forearm as Gracie's legs worked to pin her other arm out to her side and keep her back flat on the mat. The #3 ranked strawweight recognized the disadvantage of her position and deigned to fight her way free.
