I woke to the sight of the referee and fight doctor kneeling over me. I sat up against their protests, insisting that I was fine even though I felt as if my head were in a vise. I fought to stand up, reluctantly getting some help from the doctor.

They propped me up on one side of the referee, with Rhylee on the other.

The announcer’s voice boomed over the public address system. “Your winner, by knockout, with just three seconds left in the final round, miss Rhylee Diiixsooon!”

The referee raised her hand high and let mine go.

Rhylee stepped toward me with her hands out, welcoming me into a hug in the way victorious fighters often do, the loser not really wanting to offer congratulatory sentiments. She wrapped her arms around my back and shoulder.

“Good fight,” I said. It was a good fight after all, we had traded a lot of blows, and she had shown impressive toughness.

“Thanks,” she said, while rocking me side to side and patting me on the back.

She turned her head so that her mouth was right next to my ear.

“But you’re still just as weak as your sister.”

She let me go before I could register what she had said, and did a final victory lap around the cage, making the championship belt gesture as she glared at Aspen in my red corner.
