I grabbed her foot and twisted myself in her grip until I was halfway back over. She realized she couldn’t maintain control, let go and tried to scurry upward.

The orange side of the mat rose to its feet and screamed, “get her Karli!”

I jumped over her legs and right onto her partially turned torso. I wrapped my legs around hers and had enough leverage to slowly force her shoulders back down toward the mat.

The referee laid down in front of me and checked Malia’s shoulders. I had a secure position, no way she was getting out of this. The referee slapped the mat with his left hand, signaling the fall.

I couldn’t help but smile as I got off of Malia and gave her a hand up. I looked at the clock, just 35 seconds into the second period.

The referee held up my hand, giving us a 12-0 early lead in the dual meet after Park’s earlier forfeit at 95 lbs.

I was giddy as I put back on my warm up clothes and watched Annabeth put a licking on her opponent at 110, getting her fall even quicker than I did. At that point our team lead was up to 18-0. Molly lost her match by decision at 119 to give the Fillies their first 3 points. Jody briefly got us back on track at 128 with a major decision over her opponent. Faye unfortunately lost a tough match by fall late in the third period of her match and Jazz, in her first match ever, didn’t do too badly by simply losing by decision. At that point we were still up 22-12. Mariah came up huge for us with a decision win at 165 to add three, and even though we forfeited to Park’s wrestler at 185, neither team had a 215 pounder which made the final score Dillos 25, Fillies 19.

Paige wrestled an exhibition match against Park’s no. 2 at 102, losing by decision to her bigger opponent. Mariah, turning around on short notice, got an upset win over Park’s 185 pounder in the second exhibition.
