In this Citizen course Tim Von Rueden takes you through the process and mindset of creating an animated character through a focus on shapes and simplification. The focus will be on first gesturing the sketch and proportion and then using simple circle soft-edged brushes to lay out the colors to then refine.

May I ask what brush you used?
Also, what program?
If it was in photoshop, what would be a good brush for it in paint tool sai, if you know?

This was done in Photoshop CS6 and was done primarily with a soft edge brush and some hard edge brush use for detailing.

Yes, I wonder why the artwork at Concept Cookie loses sharpness once it becomes painted.

I removed the outline, leaving online the soft base of colors that were laid out with a soft edge brush. That's why it appears blurry =]

I'm pretty sure it's because hair should be loose, using a hard base would make it look a bit flat. This is just an assumption, though c:
