Description A quick digipaint of one of Chael's nix characters. He is normally a solid orange, but this is his half-mer form, and people wanted an example of "half-mer". It is the same as normal practical mers, save for graduated human coloration on the torso like classic mythological merfolk. Like all nixies, he also has a humanoid land form. I figured why not upload something random from my digital sketchbook since it's been a while.

I'd worry a bit on the hydrodynamic drag on all those small sub fins--he swims like a cetacean, after all.

He swims like a fish... side to side like all my fish mers. See- [link] for clarification. His tail is a bit rotated here due to the pose though, but I assure you it is lateral. All those fins are there for a reason in the original fish in specific locations, to help it steer and maneuver. Without them fishy merfolk would smack into walls and steer like crap. Plus fins can be laid flat against the body when not needed, as in real fish.

Hmm...looks a little like hogfish colors and patterns.

Also I love the way hogfish look, I shall draw one in the future.

He's based on a common species of killifish actually.
