Anyone that's stalked my profile in the last two weeks has in a way, caught a preview of this style I was trying. While not completely original, I can at least say I vectored it from the ground up without tracing or looking at a lot of references, though I'd still need to use some here and there since I wanted to emulate the style from Paper Mario, of which the second game in the series (Thousand-Year Door) is my favorite video game to date .

The paper stallion bodies kinda began with their limbs and ears being closed shapes, mostly so that they'd actually look like independent parts if I wanted to rotate them or make simple little trotting animations or something with them. At first, I only used black strokes and made an all-wrapped outline in thicker black. But for this thing I opened the paths, pointed the tips (but kept the joins rounded), and even applied just a touch of soft shading, or at least tried to do it similarly to how it was done on the official Paper Mario art (at least on their bodies), which I also noticed in the paper ponies used in the intro of Ponies the Anthology 3 , before coloring the outlines like my usual stuff.

Of course, shading in any form is still something I don't yet quite understand the actual logic of, and for now is just placing blurs or gradients without thinking too much about where they're going apart from "where the light's coming from" (but even that's probably not right) or just mimicking where it was in the Paper Mario art, in the hope that they look right. As in, applying it doesn't seem a problem, but moreso it's a matter of where.

The characters depicted are Fire Streak and Soarin'; Wonderbolt characters from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
