Description
The blows of the whip were unlike anything I had ever felt before. They were a high, insistent pain that could not be ignored—drowning the duller, deeper pain of the wounds in my side and ears to a low throb. I don’t know how long it went on. I was long past the point of crying out or even moving by the time I heard the whip coiled, the leather making a slick, wet, slithering sound as it moved against itself. There was blood everywhere—my blood—on my face, streaking down my sides to pool and dry around my numb knees, choking me in the back of my parched throat. Careless hands seized me and dragged me some distance, then cast me down onto something that must have once been straw. Now it was all mold and damp, mixed with things I couldn’t even begin to think about.I prayed for death, my hoarse voice the only sound in that dreadful little room—but if anyone in all the heavens heard me, they didn’t deign to answer...
EDIT: Added a bit of story. A lot of people have wanted to know about Aminas and what he experienced in the Scarlet Monastery, so--here's a snatch.
Working again on my illustrative style. For the first time i look at this and say "I see no manga and no anime and no video games." Pretty big step for me.
Story: This is Aminas Dawnspeaker, and I think all of you have met him already. This is he at the very beginning of his torment--perhaps when he is just realizing what he's going to be in for over the next few months.
There are some personal parallels I could draw, but I'm too tired to write them out. Suffice to say that I survived my torment, and Aminas will survive his too.

This is a clear cut testimony that human rights abuses of the highest level are being committed in the Scarlet Crusade. And I used to think that they were actually nice people.

The problem IS Human rights--since those are the only kind they care about! It seems they don't consider elves or the other peoples to be worthy of any kind of consideration.

Wow, that is some deep emotion, in both the piece of art and the text. I was immediately drawn to it when I saw the preview image. The raw feeling from it really pulls at you and makes your own emotions stir. And it is an excellent piece of work that can do that.

Yes, exactly. Well--I suppose needed years of recovery and being as retiring and frightened afterwards as he has been is a pretty reasonable reaction. Insanity comes in degrees, after all.

Yes, exactly. I think he could easily have come out of it angry and hateful, but that's just not in his nature.

Very well done! That poor boy. I forgot you torture your characters too. But I have always seen trials or struggles as something to make a character who he or she is. I'd love to know more about this guy. (Such a great name too! Does it have a special meaning?)

I really do torture them, lol >_>
But--yes, it really is as you say. Aminas' character is really defined by this experience--and he ends up a much better person in the end because he manages to bend it to good, rather than letting it drive him insane. ;
I would love to tell you more about him!! XD I never, ever get tired of talking about him, lol.
His name--I made his first name in a vacuum, so it has no special meaning that I know of. His last name, though, is based on the Blood Elf tradition of having names based on things relating to the sun. His father's father's father (the original Dawnspeaker) was a diplomat--a speaker of great skill. So when his family was granted nobility, they were given that name.

Poor, poor Aminas. As I've said before, this shows leaps and bounds of improvement. You've been doing your homework. The eyebrows/eyes are still the most amazing part about this for me. This is full of emotion and the composition really works.
