chalutplease — Signs of Spring?

Description I thought for sure that the hundreds of robins and starlings in my yard meant that spring had arrived but I was wrong. We're expecting another hard freeze tonight.

These guys were really funny because they were fighting over the bath. I've never seen robins do that. They started off almost hissing at each other, then they wacked beaks a few times before finally settling into the bath. The guy on the left was there first and got to have his first and the other one chased off others trying to land there before getting his turn.

This is a very sweet shot I love the contrast between the brightness of the robins' beaks and feathers and the neutral colors of the background.

Thank you so much. You're right that the background makes the birds stand out so much more. When I first saw it on the computer I actually was wishing the frost hadn't killed so much around here this year. Everything is looking that dead drab color.

Hehe, nice story! The bird on the left looks like he's really defending his right to have a bath first!

and so he was. It wasn't the first time either which is what prompted me to get the camera! Blue Jays I would have believed this from but Robins never seem to be so territorial.

Wonderful picture! It's a shame I cannot say the same thing about the cold Pennsylvania sky. Come on SPRING!

I understand your weather completely since I'm from Canada originally! Hopefully it will warm up for both of us soon. Our afternoons have been pretty nice but the mornings still start with white rooftops. I hadn't pictured Florida that way!

Just looked at the calendar. Only 17 days til Spring is official. Let's just hope the calendar lines up with reality, LOL!

I should be saying that to you!!! Our's has blown through almost already...temps here were in the low 50's but snowing up the mountains. It is still rainy and windy (I'm about to put up the sunset from a couple hours ago) but no fear of freezing...

Glad to hear that you guys did ok. We had a warm afternoon and then it got cold and windy again. Now it's cold and rainy. I'm thanking my lucky stars that I'm not on the northern east coast!

I, too, am glad I don't live back there!!!

After I signed off last night we got such a soaking the rain was coming down so hard that the gutters of the house couldn't keep up and it was overflowing everywhere! At 3 am it was so loud that it woke me up It kept happening clear up until about 8 this morning...the creek at the bottom of our valley is now a river and there are little 'creekletts' all over the sound of the "river" can be heard inside with all the windows closed! I thought it was beginning to clear but I as I look across the valley I can see another band of rain coming - good thing I got my stroll in already

The cats are not happy - they want their usual morning excursion outside...but we open the door - they take a look at the sogginess and turn around

My dog is the same as the cats. Thankfully we won't get that kind of downpour until the heat of summer is here again. Unlike you we don't have valleys for it all to go into and our streets flood and sewer systems shut down when that happens. I've seen people that "need" to get out use canoes in the streets because the water is so deep and contaminated. It's just too flat here with a high water table to start with so nothing can drain. Most of it, including raw sewage, ends up in the Gulf and the ocean. Chicago has such an undersized system that they have to open it and dump into the lake when that happens too.

Hopefully you guys will see an end to it soon.

eww! I've never lived in that flat a place, but I know what you mean...in my home town of Santa Barbara CA it rains so little that the street gutter system is primarily just lower edges of the road to the curbs. Works fine until you get a 'gully washer' and then all the lower intersections are flooded. But it drains off to the ocean quickly and I don't think it ever over powered the sewers...

The only really yucky place is along a creek near there where a lot of old homes still have septic tanks that overflow into the creek and out to the ocean - which dumps near a world famous surfing spot. I'd cringe when I would see the surfers out in that runoff My brother got an e-coli infection one year from there...

Yup, the beaches here get it just like that which is why we like to go further out onto the island. Unfortunately all the neighborhood holding ponds get it too and flood into people's yards so it's pretty gross everywhere. I don't know if inland is the same but here and Ft. Lauderdale both have it like this.

This is a fantastic picture.
So sweet the birds.
They are just people.

Thank you. They are just people but sometimes I think life is a lot harder for them.
