Description
After high winds brought down a number of trees throughout this section the local prisons sent out convict labor to help clear away the debris. These two came from nearby minimum security complexes. For three days they worked from sunrise to sunset sawing falling trees. At night, they slept chained to the others and locked inside a trailer parked outside the main mall.Only well behaved strong and healthy girls were selected for this assignment, so continuous supervision wasn't needed. No girls attempted escape or slacked off the job.
I was surprised to learn that the uniforms of both these prisoners meet the standards of the regional department of confinement. The striped dress worn by 113962 is used at several complexes for females throughout the region, both minimum and maximum security-- although stockings aren't issued at the more severe prisons.
Surprisingly, 22613's "uniform" also follows department guidelines regarding donated and seized items. Of course, a prisoner would never be issued jeans and a sweatshirt. Instead, the code specifies a T shirt or tank top, miniskirt or shorts, standard issue rubber boots, and sometimes, for good girls, a pair of tights or leggings. The collar and shackles both prisoners wear is standard issue.
NOTE: As a regular dA member I see ads displayed on the top and bottom right side of pages as I browse about. Several months ago, one particular ad for some "get-rich-quick" scheme featured a cute young woman posing with her skeezy-looking boyfriend while holding a check for something like $15,000. The woman had a decent bust and wore a T shirt much like what prisoner 22613 wears in my picture. The ad is long gone now. The people behind it probably fled to some non-extradition country. But for some reason, the memory of that girl and her shirt recently bubbled back up into the area of my consciousness responsible for inspiration. And so a picture was born.

I wonder who is more jealous of who. The girl in prison stripes probably wishes she could at least wear normal clothes, but the girl in normal clothes must be embarrassed to appear to be a free woman to passersby until they notice her chains.

Strangely, girls often take pride in the uniform of their complex whether it's stripes or re-purposed. This is encouraged (subtly or not) by those in charge.
Plus many of the prisoners have seen the ragged and filthy uniforms (recycled from the minimum security prisons) that prisoners at the more severe prisons wear (these two have.)
Thanks for the fave, by the way.

I suppose it makes sense that for women completely removed from their former lives their prison would naturally become a sort of tribal unit especially if they are often out into situations where they work with prisoners from other facilities. It might even spur work as each prison tries to prove it is the best, but I am sure the downside is that interprison fights sometimes occur.
No problem on the fave.

Exactly. We divide ourselves into all kinds of tribes of various sizes: work, school (and all the sub-tribes: cliques, clubs, teams, etc.) religion, nationality, neighborhood, sports, Coke or Pepsi, and so on. Each prison would have its own tribal identity of sorts. Prison management would encourage this kind of identification, but discourage another kind of tribalism-- gangs. Obedience is critical.

I have to think then that girls from different prisons would work together fairly often to be sure the us vs. the other prisons mentality would override the desire to form gangs and other groups within the prison. At the same time though fighting would almost certainly occur between girls from different prisons fairly often. Does management just turn a blind eye to it if it doesn't cost them any money, or do these girls get moved to a more secure facility for breaking the rules?

Actually, between girls from minimum security facilities (such as the two pictured here) who are serving sentences of less than five years for non-violent offences, there isn't much real fighting going on. Occasionally there's some pushing or slapping, more catfight than combat.
You're correct to guess that at long as these incidents don't take up too much work time, or damage property or equipment, or result in injury to non-prisoners, not much is done other than give the offenders a paddling and lock them in the hole for a while. While the fight's actually on, most guards and other staff usually stand by watching this bit of free entertainment.
Violent activity and the threat of it is controlled much more closely at the more severe prisons due to the possible threat of revolt.

Wow! You've really thought all of this out.
i figured these girls were probably serving twenty years like July, but with relatively short sentences I can definitely see the incentive for them to just keep their heads down and do their time.

Because they're shackled and have their numbers tattooed on them it's understandable that many would think these girls are in for long sentences. But regulations mandate that all prisoners serving twenty-four or more months be fitted out that way.
More extreme prisons such as Snake River Prison Camp or Complexes 18A and B follow these same regulations with additional measures taken, although the prisoners sent there aren't necessarily worse offenders than those at minimum security complexes, and their sentences may be only a few years longer.
But true enough, these girls here weren't considered security risks to begin with, and being in the middle of two and three year sentences, they're both resigned to be good and serve out their time.
Thanks. But I can't say I've put as much thought into this as you have into alternative world history.

it is funny how inspiration can come from anywhere...at anytime! most of my ideas come in the middle of the night while I am trying to get to sleep!

Inspiration comes often comes at odd times and in strange ways. And not always (if ever) when we want it to.
Thanks.
