Description For a personal project to categorize the Digimon in evolution charts. All evolutions are straight lines, where the Digimon evolve through normal means.
This one is Punimon, the other classic, who evolves into mighty beasts and warrior-Digimon! Hail to the combatants of the Animal Coliseum!
Based off of the original V-Pet, version 2: lcd.wtw-x.net/VpetEvoChart2

Punimon -> Tsunomon -> Gabumon / Elecmon
Gabumon -> Garurumon -> WereGarurumon -> MetalGarurumon
Gabumon -> Drimogemon -> Giromon -> HiAndromon
Elecmon -> Leomon -> Panjyamon -> SaberLeomon
Elecmon -> Centarumon -> Minotarumon -> Callismon
Gabumon / Elecmon (junk evolution) -> Nanimon -> Digitamamon -> Devitamamon

Update v1.3 : Centarumon's line changed; Minotarumon -> Callismon instead of Knightmon -> SlashAngemon

Don't worry, you didn't offend me or anything, just caught me off-guard is all.

Guilmon to Growlmon is one example where two Digimon in the same evolution line look similar, yeah. The difference is 1) all of Guilmon's other stages of evolution undergo much more drastic changes than that (which, I'll allow, is more like maturation yeah), and 2) guys like Agumon/Veemon/Guilmon are actually among the vast minority of all Digimon in terms of looking like their evolutionary forms. Look at someone like Gatomon and her primary evolution line; you've got a dog > cat > angel > holy dragon (before Ophanimon anyway). Most Digimon resemble that method of thinking and style of change than they do Guilmon's.

I like the American terminology well enough. *shrug* The only thing I really think made more sense in Japan was 'Digimentals' (Digital elementals representing the 8/9/wtver crests-- calling them 'eggs' was kind of a misnomer for them despite their egglike shape, and makes it easy to confuse them with the eggs from which Digimon actually hatch IMO).

So if Punimon is the 'baby' digimon..
Then I wonder, how do you call Tsunomon, not rookie right?
And I wonder what the egg looks like XD

Tsunomon's level is the In-Training stage (called 'baby 2' in japan).

Dunno what the eggs look like! Maybe that should be another project of mine, designing digi-eggs for all the Baby stages.

I find it interesting that Punimon can evolve into Elecmon and then the Leomon line. It makes you wonder if (for Adventure universe) the Elecmon at Primary Village and the Leomon are related in some way (besides coming from Primary Village to begin with)...

Though for GrapLeo, I prefer Marsmon,AncientGarurumon, or Duftmon

I'm using GrapLeomon in another line. \:3 Most people prefer Grappy, and he works well enough. I just used Panjyamon because back when Leomon and SaberLeomon were first around, GrapLeomon didn't exist yet. A lot of these I'm trying to make fit the time periods when the Digimon were created, whenever possible.

GrappLeomon was created to fill that gap, though... Then Grizzmon hijacked it.

And Panjyamon is something akin to BlueMeramon: Digimon World reskin, just one that got a bit of a special treatment due to circumstances; SaberLeomon was intended as a Perfect, just like WereGarurumon, but stuff happened, and thus Panjyamon became obtainable, and then it was dummied out.

Hmm. I see your point, and I'd say it's just as equally valid. I dunno to what extent SaberLeomon was originally fully intended to be Ultimate, though... But yeah, GrapLeomon is just as valid in Panjyamon's place, for sure. I simply chose to go this route.

SaberLeomon debuted as a perfect in the wonderswan v-pet game. And yeah, fair point.

Errr... sure....?
(Oh... those are cool. Remind me of Pokemon a little bit LOL, but the last two forms are awesome.)

I like Gabumon to Drimogemon, that actually works quite well.

Doesn't it, though~? :3 Gabumon -> Monochromon is another interesting one to consider. Since Garurumon has nothing to do with Gabumon's horn, arguably its most prominent feature, I think it's good to have an evolution that highlights that...

Tomozaurus In reply to Chameleon-Veil [2012-07-30 21:17:09 +0000 UTC]

Very true about the horn. I think Drimogemon fits a lot better than Monochromon though. I've always seen Gabumon as a mammal-like reptile, so I usually have it evolving into mammals.

Chameleon-Veil In reply to Tomozaurus [2012-07-30 23:53:04 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, but Gabumon IS technically a reptile, is the thing... Most people forget/ignore/don't care about that, especially in lines where the evolutions are meant to be more 'realistic'. In a manner of speaking, Monochromon works even better as an evo for Gabumon... But also isn't as canonical or recurring, so I used Drimogemon anyway. x3

Tomozaurus In reply to Chameleon-Veil [2012-07-31 00:09:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but a mammal-like reptile could be called a reptile as well, and concept art of him without his coat shows him with with external ears, which is a purely synapsid (mammal-line) trait. Anyway, it doesn't matter, these aren't real animals, they're just data in the shape of monsters. The synapsid thing works for me.

Ha, thanks. Bear in mind it's merely fan-made and not really in any way official... But that said, I did do my best to come up with something that might was intended to be. xP
