...what category does this even belong to lol.An old piece I finally decided to complete. This was when I discovered Tatsuyuki Tanaka's works and wanted a go at emulating his monochromatic and detailed sketches of urban cityscapes.
I referenced off a book called 'City of Darkness- Life in Kowloon Walled City' by Greg Girard and Ian Lambot.
Although dark and extremely unhygienic, I really find the rusty and claustrophobia-inducing structures aesthetically appealing.
Despite that, it's too much of a pain in the ass to draw so even if I wanted to, I doubt I would be making more pieces featuring Hong Kong/Kowloon cityscapes haha.
I would also like to apologize in advance for my horrid Chinese writing. Hell, I don't even know what I wrote to be honest, aside from 'Kowloon city'.

not bad! But telling you, I've been there before and not a lot of Kowloon is like this. Maybe you'll try Hong Kong Island next time

It's awesome. My school was at the old Kowloon city area, literally two streets away from KWC. So I think of it as "my" neighborhood. $2 flavoured ices, jaywalking, rickety minibuses and taking shortcuts through alleys. Ahhh <3
The sign you wrote means, roughly, "Kowloon Walled City Leaders Association." I can't read the one at the back...because I assume it's been faded for effect. Which works

Thiiiiis reminds me of Kakurenbo. I actually thought that was what it was when I first saw it.
I also love the claustrophobia feeling you get looking at this picture. And I'm a big fan of monotone :] The slight fish lens appeal at the bottom of the picture is rather cool too. Very nice work.

The walled city in Kowloon is a pretty cool place to see now, since, you know, it's in ruin. Went two years ago.
But I love this piece. I like pictures in back alleys and this is very cool. The little guy is awesome.

Ruin? They tore it down in 94 and turned everything into a pretty park by 95. I suppose you're talking about the Qing magistrate buildings they found in the middle. Yes, those are pretty cool. My favourite thing about them is that it was completely hidden until they began knocking the slums down. It also amazes me how what's considered to be an infamous area has now disappeared from the streets.
