Okay, so I’m just going to tell you how Dawn and Dusk’s powers works since in the comic, it won’t happen until chapter 4, which may take a while.

The origins of the special powers came from mythical/legendary Pokémon. Somehow a regular Pokémon gained a common theme of the mythical/legendary Pokémon’s abilities. For example, I’m going to use Jirachi. Jirachi’s powers are wishes. Let’s say a certain Diglett family ancestor was raised by Jirachi. Eventually, the diglett’s special power has a theme that relates to wishes. In Dawn and Dusk’s cases, their theme is time. Dawn’s powers works with the future while Dusk’s powers works with the present. (There’s someone who has the past theme but you’ll have to wait and see (it’s someone you haven’t met yet)
(Also, once that certain Pokémon have a special power, it becomes a genetic trait)

How the special powers work is that there are 4 stages: telepathic, abstract, physical, and ultimate form.

First Stage: Telepathic. The most basic that any mythical/legendary Pokémon can do. I’m pretty sure I don’t need to explain how telepathy works. This trait falls under the regular Pokémon who has an ancestral blood of the said mythical/legendary blood.

Second Stage: Abstract. After the Pokémon master telepathic, eventually they’ll unlock their second stage. Their power theme allows them to have access to their special power and uses them in a non physical way. It can’t effect others but themselves. Examples are Dawn’s Future Vision and Dusk’s Mind Reading.

Third Stage: Physical. After the Pokémon master abstract, eventually they’ll unlock their third stage. Unlike abstract that doesn’t affect other pokemon, the third stage can if they’re being used to fight. It’s a more powerful version of their abstract state. However there is a cost using the third stage. Without a power supply, it drains the Pokémon’s stamina very abruptly. It takes a lot of energy to use it because the physical power isn’t natural to the regular Pokémon’s species. Without any training, it could depleted someone within a second. However with a special material from the mythical/legendary Pokémon, it allows the user to practice their physical trait without losing stamina very quickly. Right now in the story, Dawn hasn’t unlock her physical ability while Dusk had, as you seen from this chapter.

Fourth Stage: Ultimate Form. After having great control over the third stage, soon they’ll unlock their final stage, their ultimate form. Basically it’s similar to mega forms in the games. It changes their appearance temporarily and almost looks like if they’re a legendary/mythical Pokémon themselves. This stage is very hard to unlock due to the third stage already being hard to master it. If a pokemon manage to unlock this stage, not only their stamina will drain but also their life force. So they have to use it very wisely when using their ultimate form.
