EDIT: I re-rendered the old process video! You can watch the new one at the link below!WORK PROCESS VIDEO CAN BE SEEN HERE!
"What did Felix see? What is it he's afraid of?" "... Is it not so obvious?"
A little while back Miles Luna posted an entry containing a writing exercise concerning Felix, which prompted me to post a comment with an analysis of the character. This illustration is based off of those two things and is an attempt to give physical form to Felix's fear. I made a process video (link above) to go with it, and I might have gotten a little artsy with it. Enjoy!

I still find it so interesting that Felix was more afraid of himself. This picture definitely shows that self-fear. I love it!

Thanks a bunch! Yeah it's a bit shocking at first but the more you think about it the more sense it makes, especially with things like how much he liked to talk about himself, and talk in general.

my reply was:
"Not too shabby. I have a feeling you're going to miss writing for Felix now that he's gone, huh? Its too bad, he was an interesting character and probably one of the best villains the series has ever had. And it wasn't that he was clever, or powerful, it was because despite how evil he is Felix is probably the most "human", his circumstances may have been extreme but his reactions are 100% real to life.
Of course he talks all the time. Its basic. Keep on talking, say everything perfect, rehearsed, like a play, a game. Say every nasty barbed thing you can think of. Put them down, pick at their insecurities. The more you do the better you feel, makes you feel big, strong, untouchable. But its like a drug and it doesn't last long. All too soon you've driven them away, crushed them underfoot. Then what? The crash. Now you're alone. Only one thing left to keep you company. It whispers to you, you can't make it leave, you can only try to drown it out with your own words, but its never really enough, because it speaks the truth and the truth is louder. "You're garbage. You're weak. You're not as great as you think you are. All your jokes suck. You're all alone. No one likes you, they'll all leave you. You're so lonely. It hurts so bad, but you deserve it don't you? You deserve all your suffering and you repay it in kind. Make them hurt more. You're irredeemable. He's going to leave you. You should just die."
And eventually he does. He staved it off as long as he could, made Locust his punching bag, after all he was the only one who could take Felix's abuse, because he too thinks he deserves it. And Felix breaks him down more and more until despite the hate Locus is convinced that he cannot live without Felix. Its almost textbook abuse. But it all breaks eventually, Locust stands up and Felix dies.
Because in the end, it wasn't really Locust that Felix was afraid of. It was what he could do, and that was leave. Because what Felix is truly afraid of, is Felix."

And yeah he is afraid of Locus but not in terms of being afraid of HIM if that makes sense, he's afraid of Locus leaving because then he'll be alone and being alone is what Felix is terrified of.

Well Felix himself never talked about what scared him, it was the Alien AI who talked about it when Locus brought it up. When he finally tells Locus he says that "only one of you can live without the other." Its is a bit on the vague side which is really my only serious criticism of RvB as a whole is that they're a bit noncommittal when it comes to character points, like Carolina being Church's daughter.

That certainly makes a lot of sense. For Felix to be without Locus, the two seem like they would be an unstoppable team if Locus hasn't though about healing his war mental wounds/scars

*nods* They are a good team, but not a good relationship. Felix is extremely abusive and goes out of his way to crush Locus down, make him dependent on him. Its sad, because likely if he had gotten proper help for what is clearly PTSD Locus would have dropped Felix like a bag of garbage and would be happy.

I would like to see him again, especially since 13 ended, well, without an ending.
Though that may not be till later, 14 and possibly 15, are going to be a series of small side stories written by various independent people and will not be staring any of the regular cast. At least that's what Miles said.

I got into it about a week before season 11 started. My sister was trying to get me into for a long while and the thing was, I didn't know at the time, I was interesting RWBY because of my friend had posted a journal with the trailer for season 1.
i was so excited for it that I showed my older sister. She then told me that RWBY is in the same company as Red vs. Blue (which at the time I didn't like that or Hetalia because I didn't like comedy very much so I though they were silly and dumb)
She got me to watch on episode and it became my favorite episode. (Season 8 episode 10) Then she showed my someone's of Tucker's top 10 Bow Chicka Bow Wow and there was this one scene that I wanted to know which episode it was so needless to say I ended up watching and liking RvB....
oops rambling again --;;; sorry

That's a pretty intriguing take. You should... create... more content... exploring that. *eyebrows waggling*
But I'm a little curious about one angle. Think I missed something here. So, knives are personal, and fingers are personal-- and the two are combined in this symbolic nightmare fever dream because... why? He feels like, deep down, he's actually incapable of interacting with anything without destroying it? Like there's a point where he can't fully make the distinction between what to keep and what to break? He's afraid he can't ultimately separate the two? Or he doesn't want to-- or has convinced himself that he doesn't want to, when in reality, that's something he's not actually in control of anymore? Fill me in, Chaos Kid, before I take this brain-train too far off the rails. I'm mentally salivating to know what's up in your headcanon.

XD thank you. I would like to do more things like this, though maybe not what you're thinking
Okay X) I'll do my best to explain!
No real shocker, Felix is psychotic. Most likely he's also a sociopath. I don't know about when he started acting that way, if its a case of ptsd like Locus or if he truly is a sociopath and he's been this way since birth. The reason it looks like him is because Felix's greatest fear is of himself, of being alone. Felix and Locus have one thing in common, that being that they both have a tremendous sense of self loathing, Locus' manifests in depression and the impossible goal of being "perfect" Felix's manifests in lashing out at other people. When a person bullies another they do it because it makes them feel good, they feel more dominant, more in control, safer. Which is what this all comes down to for Felix, he doesn't feel safe, ever. He hurts everyone around him to prove he's stronger, tries to make everyone feel the same way he does about himself, because if he does then they can't hurt him. That's why he latched on to Locus, because Locus already hates himself, its the perfect victim for a predictor like Felix and creates a toxic relationship. Locus won't leave no matter how much Felix hurts him, likely because he either doesn't see it as abuse, or believes that he deserves it, he might even think Felix is strong and want to be more like him. It seems to be mostly emotional abuse, likely because if he were to try and physically hurt Locus the jig would be up and Locus would leave, which is the last thing Felix wants.
So I guess to sum it up: Felix hates himself, he hurts everything and everyone around him to feel in control, to feel safe, he manipulates anyone he can find who will give him even a shred of pity or power over them to make himself feel strong. He fears being alone because it would leave him only with himself, who he hates. The representation is not just of his fear but of his own psychosis, his depression and self hate, and "whispers" constantly in Felix's ear how much of pathetic, weak, monster he is, it embraces him almost like a lover, a sick mockery of the safety he desires, hanging off his back as a tremendous weight. In the image it has knives graphed on to its hands, both of which are Felix's choice of weapon (next to words) because they are more intimate, its more personal and makes him feel powerful, as it does with most murderers. The hands are skeletal and are coated in feted black rot, an indication of how disgusting Felix knows himself to be on the inside. Part of him probably wants to die, but is also too afraid to. He constantly suffers in agony in his head, and can only relieve it by taking it out on others. Because as Locus said, he is a monster.
I may have babbled a bit but hopefully it makes sense! Psychology is one of my hobbies and its terribly fun to analyze characters

Just out of curiosity, what is your analysis of Felix? And what's up with the knife hand?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Chaos--Child In reply to TheAlmightyFireHawk [2015-12-12 04:34:31 +0000 UTC]
The knives are primarily from Felix's near obsession with them as a weapon. Which is probably because a knife is a very personal weapon, you have to get close to your target, to look them in the eye. It probably makes him feel powerful. His fear has them jutting from its fingers since fingers are so personal, they're used to explore and manipulate the world around us, the pose is almost intimate but also oppressive and uncomfortable. The reasoning can probably be summed up best with the analysis I originally gave in response to his journal.
Sorry if its a bit long X)
