Description
Dog: BCTX's Danger Zone
Show: NYC Pride
Danger is one of CAK’s two in-training service dogs. He is intended as a psychiatric service dog for CAK’s youngest handler Audrey. At six months old he has had a good amount of socialization and has had multiple training sessions in the hustle and bustle of Seattle. As such, no one was concerned about the parade being too much for him. Given his dark colored coat, and Audrey not wanting to bleach him, Danger did not have any dye on him. Instead, a heart shaped, pride colored headband was purchased for him. A few quick training sessions were done before the handlers left for NYC to ensure he didn’t have any issues wearing it.
At the show, Danger stayed with Audrey and the other two parade dogs as they walked along the parade route. They did end up stopping a few times to allow people to pet the dogs or take photos. As they walked, they came upon a photo area. A large rainbow balloon arch was setup with the word pride spelled by balloon letters. Audrey stopped to take a few photos of the dogs. Danger was placed in a sit and asked to hold the pride flag that was attached to Audrey’s puppy carrier. After a few photos were taken, the group moved on with the rest of the parade.
While Danger was on his best behavior, he wasn’t the most social as the large crowds were making Audrey a little anxious. This caused Danger to focus on her a lot in case she had an anxiety attack. Thankfully, while crowds make her anxious, dogs keep her calm so aside from some low level anxiety, Audrey had no issues.
All three dogs and Audrey were thankful once the parade was over though as it allowed them to relax and rest away from any crowds. But they did have fun at the parade!
