Description
CAK's orange team puppies had already been exposed to the x-back harnesses but had never worn one. Now that it was finally time to attempt to put a puppy x-back on them, it was quickly decided they would be separated for this given their reactions when being first introduced to the harnesses together. Empi was chosen to go first due to his calmer nature and how well he had reacted to the initial exposure of the harness. Empi was beautifully behaved, staying relatively still for the harness going on, only having normal puppy wiggles rather than attempting to fight the harnessing. Once on, he couldn't have cared less, quickly trotting off to explore the field and chew on some sticks. At the end of this training session, Empi was completely comfortable with the harness and could care less about its existence.
The handlers knew going in that Serow was not going to be anywhere as easy to work with as Empi. For one, he does still tend to require a leash as he loves running off and not coming back. While the training field is fully fenced, no one wants to chase a greyhound mixed puppy around a field to try and bring them back inside. Collar and leash on, the handlers put the harness on the squirmy puppy. While he did not particularly stay still, he also was not trying to fight the harness specifically. Serow is used to wearing normal non x-back harnesses so the putting on of the harness was not a big deal to him. Once the harness was on, Serow took a few moments to sniff at the harness before he latched on to his leash and pulled. This was a common behavior for him and something the staff is working on. Overall, Serow could not care less about the harness and only wanted to tug on his leash.
Twoey was going to be the problem child. This was something the staff knew going into it. She loved to tug on things and while she was incredibly sweet, she also was a fluffy ball of energy. Sure enough, once the harness was on she quickly noticed it was longer than her normal harness and latched on to the end of it. Twoey was spinning in circles trying to tug on her harness before she eventually tipped herself over with a fast strong tug that yanked her off-balance. The staff then stepped in to work with her a bit. Treats were used to distract her and get her moving in the harness. By the end of the session she was confident in the harness and mostly ignoring it. She would periodically turn her head to try and tug on it but was easily re-orientated.

Notes: I finally kind of figured out how to draw puppies! This is technically a redo of lesson one because I didn't realize the dogs needed their own image. But it was a fun break from show entries so I'm not upset about it.
