Description
December 7 1941 is "a date that lives in infamy." It was the day when Japan launched a surprise attack on the United States naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii which resulted in more than 2000 American casualties. The United States avenged that very loss with the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which resulted the deaths of thousands of Japanese civilians almost four years after.

Back in those days, wartime fears like that has brought out the worst in everyone while the stress of battle brought out best in others. After the war, the United States and Japan have developed deep economic ties with one another and are now close allies. This day is a time to pay respect to old adversaries and to recognize our shared losses.

I drew this picture of Izuku Midoriya and Melissa Shield as one is Japanese and the other is American as their respective flags show. Despite what happened during the war, my country's relationship with Japan has gotten better, and hopefully the relationship we share with them stays strong just like the two young heroes here.
