That would be Tiberius, of course!   The spider book is E.F. Benson's ghost stories, but I don't have any of the Mapp and Lucia books.

This is the CD set of a radio drama performed by the BBC, I highly recommend it!

I was profoundly influenced by Robert Graves and his Claudius novels, the TV series literally opened up a whole new world to me!
