As I told SynDrome , you need to see it right away, put it at the top of any movie list you have (Unless you haven't seen Metropolis, which the visuals are too important for you to miss the movie).

I sorta' saw Metropolis. My friend had it playing in my room while I was doing schoolwork, so I saw a decent chunk of it.

The story was a little rough, but the visuals were amazing, iconic, and classic art deco. The machine-man was cited as the inspiration for the aliens in Alien, and Sid from Species; and the movie is also cited as inspiring parts of blade runner.
But it is long (Near 3 hours), and has a few plot holes. The important things about Metropolis are its visuals. If you've seen them, then you got the important part of the movie.
