The Alpine Challenge. Even days before Connor was already thrilled and all hyped up for the event. Quite unusual for him to care so much about something... Connor had been to Alaska before, but only to train and never to compete in such a harsh challenge that was the Alpine Challenge. A good friend, fellow Ranch Hand Stanley Smith, dropped Connor off at Prudhoe Bay. He would've driven himself, but he had no driver's license and would get in great trouble if he drove there himself...

Connor took every possible precaution probably overpacked but better than coming unprepared, as this would be his longest endurance race yet. Once they arrived at the event start, Connor made the organizer aware he had arrived. He was used to some extent cold, so it wasn't that big of a deal, although the difference between there and his hometown could be felt.

A few others had also arrived already and Connor did his best to not get caught in any conversation. He wasn't exactly the type for idle chit-chat and all that, but rather spending time alone. That plays also a great part in his love for endurance, as he could escape busy and crowded everyday life and do something he enjoys, far away from big crowds.

After bringing Hamingja to her assigned stall and providing food & water, Connor and his dog Sonny went to check out the room they were staying in until the challenge started in a few days. Vet Checks, physical exams, packing, and all that still stood on the to-do list, before Connor was allowed to start.

His physical exam was the one he had fear of not passing due to his prosthetic leg, but it will turn out not to be that big of a problem.

The room was nice and cozy, so Connor brought all of his stuff into it and got to bed early, to recover from the long drive to Alaska.
After everyone had somewhat gotten used to the weather and temperature, Phase One of the Alpine Challenge began: Vet Check & Physical Exam.

Connor woke up early to not oversleep and be the first one in line for the check, so he would already be done by the time all the others arrived. Did not go as planned though and he had a few other teams already around, once it was his turn.

The vet check of both Hamingja and Sonny went smoothly and with good results. Connor's physical exam went surprisingly well despite how nervous he got during that. He thought there was no possible way he passed, but he did pretty well, even considering his disability.

With their usual red color, Connor again missed the usual green-themed tack of the Meteor-Ranch , the stable he was there to represent. Something about the color red stood out to Connor though and he was convinced it was the best-fitting one for Hamingja. Maybe the red color was also part of some deeper meaning, but who knows, maybe Connor just really thinks it's cool and that's all. Something important about Hamingja's tack was a yellow star keychain with a blue thunderbolt drawn onto it. 'Superstar' was the meaning of this and there was no way the team would ever compete without their lucky charm.
