Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU COMMENTThese are a group of chaos chosen.
I made these due to my mate who was may first major 40K opponent. He collects dark angels. And so, as a chaos player, i proceded to paint all my SM trophys dark angel green (that got a grin). I desided to make this squad partialy as a tribute to my friend, but also because i loved the look of the kit.
(I should note that i built these about a year ago, and painted them about 4 months ago, but only now took photos.)
The models are made from a mix of dark angel veterans and chaos space marine parts. All apart from cypher have chaos backpacks, and the melta units melta and sword are chaos.
The model that represents cypher is my favorite. It was a last second desision to make the sargent of the squad cypher. I gave him the customary bolt and plasma pistol (the plasma counts as a power sword in game). The sword of the lion on his back is from the imperial guard set (i think, its been some time).
The painting was, in a word, simple. Spray black, drybrush gray, details. The wings turned out great. This was my first time painting them like this. I mixed a 2:1 of deneb stone and white. then i washed with blue. finally, i lightly highlighted white.
I do like the squad, and cant wait to see them fail against my mate.
PLEASE NOTE...............
I say this to stop the inevitable outburst. YES, they are fallen darkangels. NO, Fallen darkangles arnt green. They are black, like pre-heresy dark angels. Thank you.

Does Cypher has a scouter or something in his right eye?

Well since we had a convo about this a year back, I took up the brush and redid the ones I had done a while back, many thanks once again for that little info mate, truly helped me out especially after more about them and getting quite a bit more info on The Fallen! Excellent work on them though, the Chaos working on them just makes me chuckle!

I'm considering starting a Fallen angels chaos army and this picture has inspired me for the paint scheme (not that i could get it as good as you, my painting skills are non-existent :L) your Cypher is actually better than the GW model IMO

Drybrushing isn't the problem, I just don't have the steady hand for all the detailing

actually, i cant stress enough that its all practace. ive got better by just trying new things. I can say that if you ever want practice, buy and paint a box of chaos spawn. Even if you make a mistake its very hard to ruin a spawn.

K, well i can advise. After the sprey black and lightly grey drybrush, get a smaller brush and apply a colour to the details. If you go over, repaint the mistake in black.

Finally someone which got the point of the Fallen Angels, and yeeeah I know mine is green but it is an post-heresy Fallen . I definitly have to do some more fallen ones. nice interpretation of cypher.
I hope you'll work out a nice base. For the painting good basics, but you can paint even ore details like the little skulls, the belts, or some ornaments/trophies on the backpack

i did considder the little parts, but the lack of colour helps to draw attention to the parts that are coloured. still, thanks for the comment XD.

the deneb stone part was for the wings. the cloaks have a gradual drybrush of codex grey applied.

Great.
It is not often when you can see a really unique character ( I prefer him than Huron).
Good job.
Specific colours provides them really special atmosphere

Nice work mate! I look forward to facing them and inevitably fucking up against them somehow!
I can't say how pleased I am that you gave them right colour armour. It irks me no-end to see Fallen Angels painted green. I still don't understand why Games Workshop themselves paint Cypher green. The dark tones overall on yours makes them look nice and moody; because if a Dark Angel is moody, a Fallen Angel should be moodier! . Also, I'm quite keen on your limited use of chaos components. I've seen plenty of Fallen Angels that are basically just Chaos Marines with Dark Angel icons and it doesn't seen very imaginative to me. This is far more subtle. Afterall, they are supposed to be able to be mistaken for genuine Dark Angels at a quick glance...

Thanks. They where fun to paint. I had trouble deciding how to paint it. I knew i wanted black armour, and black cloaks, but wanted some variaty to the colour, some texture. The grey does that and makes them look worn.
Oh, love the new icon BTW.

ahh... cypher... love this char... and you made a really good job! but I WOULD... no im kidding... . well i love the wings, this is the eavy emtal look i was talking about, that you got here.. and drill the gun barrels. you could also get a lighter red and dilute much, get a a bit of it and paint it on the middle of the plasma... part... the red part on cypher's gun anyway, gives a dept in it.

chaotea In reply to Olivier2302 [2011-10-05 16:45:56 +0000 UTC]
i confess, you cant see it great from here, but the plasma is quite good. Its got mericate red all over, then blood red applied to the rased bumps or the gun.
Ive started to drill gun barrals, but sporadically. Generally only on special characters / heavy weapons. I recon ill go back and do it sometime, same as doing my bases.
