Description
Done as part of a test for a job. Never heard back from them, so I assume its OK to post.Given a floorplan, and asked to design and illustrate a crypt.

Amazing lighting... WOW!!! The contrast is brilliant...
but it looks cozy for a crypt, doesn't it? Or is it supposed to be cozy because it's a resting place after all and lit by candlelight? I guess you've made me rethink the whole crypt idea.
Why are the doors thrown on the floor???

Yeah, you're probably right. Was thinking a lot about the Hunchback of NotreDame when I painted this :/ Guess it worked against me.
Its a mishmash of disused but still loved, in that the tomb had been ransacked before, hence the doors. One old monk is left to tend the place, but he's old and weak and cant move the doors. He can light candles though ;D
Prop sheets are reference sheets of the props within a scene for modellers or painters to use as reference when painting or modelling different elements in the scene.

Aaaaaah, I love the story... there's a wonderful book about the building of a cathedral by Ken Follet called "The Pillars of the Earth". I guess that story and the illustration would match up perfectly.

I wouldn't know what tips to give...other than don't avoid doing backgrounds.
I used to do it almost allllll the time despite whole modules on it in college.
Became my weakpoint, so now I'm trying to work back into it.
Keep track of your relative scale and watch out for tangents is the best advice I can offer.

Thank you very much! I did perspective back in college too but I was horrid at it.. I'm trying to force backgrounds into all my comics because it gives it so much depth. Trying to get better bit at a time!

suprisingly not, actually. I've avoided OTT perspective more times than not, but this was actually really fun. lighting's a guilty pleasure of mine though ;D Thanks man.

I like this! Nice perspective, although it feels very warm and cosey for a crypt - I'd maybe get some blues and greens in there to give it a colder, scarier atmosphere.

This is absolutely beautiful man. Probably some of your best lighting work that I've seen you do. It has a really stong sense of realism but it still has all the elements that give you your iconic style.
I will keep looking at it and get back to you with crits if you like but for now I'm just somewhat blown away.
