About a week ago John Silva posted on his twitter that it was Master Study Week! And I thought, hmmm I should do a Master Study. I mean I've been doing 2hr speed paintings for over a month now studying light and color this was a perfect opportunity to really just do a really nice finished piece. This is also good practice as its a goal and requirement to do to become a Master Street chalk artist to do at least 5 - 10 Master Studies.

So I chose Leonardo Da Vinci Angel from Virgin in the Rocks for 2 reasons. 1 - I completely need practice with portraits. I avoid faces and human anatomy like the plague. Give me all the animals, environments and still live... but when it comes to people, I suck. and 2 - I've always been fascinated by Leonardo Da Vinci style of Sfumato which is the fine shading that produces soft, imperceptible transitions between colours and tones. ( you can read more about Sfumato here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sfumato )

In the end I really tried to study the brush strokes and methods Da Vinci used, but I also took some creative liberties and changed it up near the end to make it my won. I didn't smooth out all the lines, especially in the cloth and wings. I wanted some texture to be still left in it. The Hair is really as close as I could get it with out spending another 19 hrs on it! lol I mean I could sit here for another 2 week perfecting every detail but, ya know... I have other projects I would like to work on. I still see mistakes in well... everything... but I'm happy with the likeness of the original reference.

I really have to thank Bahkana bahkana.deviantart.com/ , Madam Marla madam-marla.deviantart.com/ and Muz muzski.deviantart.com/ for all their help sitting with me night after night as I worked on this. They provided alot of crits and pointed out things I normally would not have seen. Annnnnnd all my Livestream buddies for putting up with my negative attitude towards it! Lol, because there were many times I just wanted to toss this thing out the window. I really have to say if it wasn't for the crimson daggers, my friends and livestream... I probably would never have gotten this done... so really thanks guys for the support! <3

And now I go rest... enjoy

It looks stunning hon, it shows that a lot of work and effort and patience went into it, it's really a stunning result, and a gorgeous study.

I can't wait to be done with college to join you guys on these amazing studies you're doing Unfortunately I'm on hiatus cause of exams nowadays.

Oh my goodness!

This looks freaking amazing! You should be so proud of yourself. The color, the texture, and the lighting, its just ... perfect. The face, specifically the eyes and lips are wonderfully rendered. I think you are well on your way to accomplishing all those artistic goals you've set for yourself, and then some!
