Description
About::Decided to redo this since it was still popular. I had grown from my much simpler way of doing wings. It is still pretty simple but with a few added steps.
Sorry about the typos, I should really learn to proof-read! lol
NOTE: You can leave as much horse coat on the wing as you like, sometimes going up really high(where that downy feathers are) can give it a lot of realisim.

Ahh so good, thanks for updating this! I'd recommend leaving the old one up too, actually. I thought the way you blended the brown coat of the horse all the way up was REALLY natural-looking and helped a lot with when I did it.

true. I kinda covered that in there but I could have specified to leave more up higher for realistic looking joints.

Yea, this is a pretty outdated tut but I still use the same technique. I just add Highlights/lowlights to it like I do the rest of the horse.
Glad you like it and hope it is useful. If ou get stuck or want clarification you can note me!

I use GIMP and there's not a Image -> Adjustment -> Match Color option. Is there something that works the same way? I've tried color balancing and it just looks out of place.

I'm not really familiar with the options for GIMP... um I sometimes use multiple layers on different colors and the opacites of them to get them to fit. Is there anything that could be similar to match color?
If you want you can note me a screen shot of the options and we can figure something out?

Hmm I have photoshop as well but I don't have the handy "Match color" option. I have the 7.0 version, do you have any thoughts on what would work like that?

I really like this tutorial Charlie, it's a very nicely explained guide on how to blend wings, something I still am trying to learn somewhat. I like seeing and learning how people do their blending though, most are similar to each other, but each person puts their own style and twist to the method. Thanks for making this It's a great learning tutorial

i love it! but i'm quite bad at cutting images..especially the hair part.. how did u managed to make it so detailed?

Charlie--X In reply to Bloodhaunt [2007-12-04 00:42:58 +0000 UTC]
After i cut it Bloodhaunt, i then smudge the hair, ther are tons of tuts on those.

nebulastock In reply to Bloodhaunt [2007-12-03 07:06:22 +0000 UTC]
CharlieAngel probably used the smudge brush after extracting the horse from its background.. use size 1 or 2 smudge brush at maybe 70% opacity/strength(depending on your program) and how long you want the strands to be as you smudge them out...Charlie could probably explain this better than I'm doing, but it's a rough idea of how you make nice/realistic looking tails/manes and you can also use the smudge brush to smooth out the horse..a popular thing to do nowadays for a soft feel to an image...
