Description I'm pleased to announce that I have a new video tutorial available. In a follow up to my previous Skillshare class I'm releasing a new tutorial covering my colour process from black and white!

The tutorial vid is 36 minutes long and gives you a pretty good general overview of my average colour process. I've tried my best to explain things as thoroughly as possible for any beginners watching, info on layer ordering, colour choices, layer modes etc. I'm sure most of you will understand what I'm doing and why I'm doing it, but I haven't assumed that everyone will know by default. So explanations a-plenty!

The full size PSD is included, with the B&W character from the previous class and the new colour version so you can toggle between the two. My brush pack is also included, which is available all the time regardless (you aren't paying for it!) but I've included it in the pack as well for convenience.

The tutorial is available to download now.

Thank you for explaining overlay layers, I was fumbling with them quite a lot. I'm still not very good with colour so starting from B&W saves me a lot of time in the longrun.

If you do eventually do another video about textures I would love to see it.

I love your designs but i'm really so over professionals asking for money for tutorials.. What happened to helping others out? You are popular enough to just sell your art and if you were to make Youtube tutorials you could make money of the Youtube ads.. But straight up asking 9 bucks for 36 minutes of material? That's a little crazy in my opinion, even Marc Brunet asks way less.

It's nothing personal because i love your artwork but i just think it's not very honorable to ask, you're making your content unavailable for people in poverty (like myself, can't even pay my rent), if you were to charge a basic amount of 2 bucks and then leave additional donations open you would be more considerate of people in different situations.

DjamilaKnopf In reply to eev11 [2014-07-22 14:54:37 +0000 UTC]

Wow, this post is so upsetting, it left me speechless for a moment.
Working as a professional artist is a full-time job, 40+ hours a week. And instead of spending more free time with their friends and family, many artists create content for us to help us learn and improve. They're not obliged to do that at all. And neither should they be expected to do it for free. It's extremely inappropriate and rude to complain to someone who creates such an informative tutorial and gives it away for 9 dollars! It's definitely worth it and compared to art colleges it is extremely cheap. And I'm sorry, but bringing up your personal situation here, is also quite inappropriate. As in any other situation, if you can't afford something, you can't buy it. It's as simple as that. Since when do you complain at the person that produces a product because YOU cannot afford it?
I'm sorry, but I needed to get this off my chest.

Great totorial Charlie, I'm amazed!

I'm not saying they are obligated, just that i think it's sad that for a 36 minute tutorial 9 bucks is asked.. Most professional artists that make tutorials charge that for a month or multiple months access to their tutorials. I don't think it's worth it considering you don't get any personal feedback and you never get to speak to the artist. That's why i think it's good that tutorials are free. If i wanted to pay for art lessons (which i have in the past but can't now) i'd actually go out and get lessons at an artclass! And are you seriously upset that there are people who are poor? My god.. you think it's inappropriate that there are people that are poor? You must be such an amazing person. I'm sorry but just fuck off with your social rules, this is the internet and i am allowed to state my opinion! It is an opinion and nothing more, she doesn't HAVE to change anything (and i don't expect her to) and she doesn't even have to listen to it.. That's why it's an opinion, but bashing someone for being poor is really low.

Aleynia In reply to eev11 [2014-07-22 15:41:14 +0000 UTC]

Not once did she say she thinks it's inappropriate that people are poor. Not once. She said it was inappropriate to bring up your personal situation. I'm poor as well, but I'm not blaming what I can and can't afford on the artist. Any artist who's willing to help at all is good in my book. She's not asking you to sell a kidney and you aren't obligated to buy the tutorial.

Please stop overreacting.

eev11 In reply to Aleynia [2014-07-22 15:51:07 +0000 UTC]

Well.. she did bring up her personal situation as well.. So i'm not sure how i would be inappropriate and she wouldn't be? Also i'm not blaming the artist, it seems like nobody is really reading my replies in a correct way. She can do whatever she likes and charge whatever she likes but i am just personally disappointed by the fact that everyone is so commercial. Nothing personal against her, like i said i think she's a great artist and she makes her own choices, that doesn't mean that i can't have an opinion though and that's what i did, stating my opinion.

Aleynia In reply to eev11 [2014-07-22 16:04:38 +0000 UTC]

Again, no one said anything of the sort. You did. No one brought up their personal situations until you did. Also, no one said you can't have an opinion. But just because you have an opinion, doesn't mean you can't show any respect. You're being childish by whining about artists needing to make money, too. Isn't that why people do commissions? To make money. Charlie has given plenty away for free and outright states in her journal that she will do more freebies, "I'm totally open to releasing more tutorials and there will be freebies along the way".

If you can't afford something, then you can't afford it. Plain and simple. This is for those who are willing to sacrifice $9. If you aren't one of those people then please stop harassing the artist about it. They have no control over your financial strain. Move along if you have no interest in it or don't want to buy it. Charlie has as much right to make money as anyone in the world. Bills aren't always cheap nor is the cost of living, free.

Thank you for the tutorial, Charlie. I truly appreciate it

eev11 In reply to Aleynia [2014-07-22 16:26:47 +0000 UTC]

I have showed respect, i said before that i think she's a great artist.. That however does not mean i have to agree with every little thing she does.
Childish is arguing with someone if you just do it to protect someone who doesn't need any protection. Childish is not reading someone's comment and respecting their opinion. I respect your opinion and Charlie's opinion, however you didn't grant me any respect and dismiss my opinion.
I never harassed anyone but you are right now, you have showed NO respect for me at all, i think it's great that you stand by Charlie and what she does but that doesn't mean it's okay to belittle me.

P.s. This is not a commission, clearly. Also WILLING to pay a price.. I am. But i do not have the means to do so, there's a difference my dear. You have millionaires not WILLING to pay taxes and there are people in the gutter UNABLE to pay taxes. Know the difference.

If you're starving and a charity offers you free food do you go to a restaurant, because the charity food's not good enough for you, and complain that their food's not free? Your opinion sucks. No one respects your opinion cos it just fuckin sucks. Be grateful for all the free tutorials out there.
