Description At the last Gallifrey, during the IDW panel, we were all asked what Doctor Who characters would we most want to write for. My answer was Abslom Daak and Frobisher. I thought they would make a fun and interesting duo.

Well, with the help of artist Ilias Kyriazis, I can now show you a glimpse of what such a comic might look like.

So, here we see Daak and Forbisher having a bit of a spat in the lava pits of Boron Minor. Don't worry though, this will be resolved and they will become fast friends... I think.

Fantastic work.

Frobisher remains my favourite comic companion. I wish he'd turn up in the new series, if only for an episode. Although I think even with the budget DW has I'm not sure if they'd be able to do Frobisher justice or if they could it'd be a fleeting appearance.

Abslom Daak was great and showed that the DW universe had more to it, gritty and deeper than the places that was shown where the Doctor landed.

Yeah, I would love to see some of the comics characters brought to life onscreen.

But I think the closest you're going to get to Frobisher being in the new series is his appearance in the IDW Doctor Who anniversary series Prisoners of Time.

Which was wonderful to see, and he was used fantastically.

Ah Frobisher. My favourite companion ever (Who can't like a shape shifting detective who favors the form of a penguin? Not I!)

Stunning work on this one my good chap . Glad people still know about Abslom Daak and Frobisher.  Makes me kind of wish that more people knew about the painted comics that came out in TV 21 back in the 60's with the Dalek storys. Ooooh man, now THEY were awesome

Definitely, I've always wanted a complete reprint of all the pre-DWM comics. But I wonder if they're difficult to track down. I know some of them were reprinted in Doctor Who Comic Classics back in the 90s.

That particular diagram and version of the chain-sword was drawn and (re)designed by me. Looking at it after 20+ years, I notice that the trigger and the pull-back whatsit numbers were transposed in production. I redesigned it from the original because I couldn't see where the teeth went to inside the handle, so I put enough space with the extension cowling. I also had a hard time with the original pointy end (admittedly this is probably overthinking the item, but again, I thought it was a weak point). I also added the exhaust/debris pipe at the rear end, which didn't get into the nomenclature at all. I always assumed that the 'engine' would be some kind of magnetic pulse (kind of like a monorail principle) either in the lower section of the handle or within the teeth-housing section. But then again, it might be almost anything, as the technology is futuristic. I redesigned it again for Emperor of the Daleks, with a magnetic backpack/power source which also doubled as a scabbard, I didn't like the idea of all those nasty teeth ruining Daak's clothing

Well, there ya go.
Wasn't the chain-sword in Emperor like a prosthetic hand as well, or am I remembering that wrong? I seem to recall it was attached to him in that one.

Well, he plays a crucial roll in Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time, the 50th anniversary series from IDW. The final issue hits stands tomorrow. (plug)

Methinks of a BF audio if it ever becomes possible with Rob Jezek reprising as Frobisher, but who will voice as Daak then?

Still awesome fake-cover there.

I would love BF to tackle Daak... also, there needs to be more BF with Frobisher.

Where's the engine for his chainsaw sword?

Since you have a troll face avatar, I suspect this may be a troll question. But since there is an actual answer for that question, here it is:

Analog-AI In reply to CharlieKirchoff [2013-11-18 17:52:34 +0000 UTC]

Since this is from your own gallery, I assume you've read it. So, once again, where's the engine? (Unless that is what a "pull-back de-magnetizer operation" is supposed to be)

CharlieKirchoff In reply to Analog-AI [2013-11-18 18:08:06 +0000 UTC]

I think what the diagram indicates is that it doesn't require an engine. It operates using the devices shown. Now for what they specifically do, you would have to ask Steve Moore and Steve Dillon since they're the ones that came up with it.

Analog-AI In reply to CharlieKirchoff [2013-11-18 18:49:20 +0000 UTC]

Nope. Assuming that an incomplete diagram indicates anything other than what is shown is fallacious. It's not your problem to worry about it, since it's not your character, but that is just lazy design on behalf of Moore and Dillon.

Well, if it's using a high-acceleration linear motor to drive the chain, the best place is inside the blade itself. Although, it would require vast amounts of energy to run at a long, constant rate. I'd almost suggest it used a tungsten carbide alloy instead of titanium for the high temperature resistance in grinding through Dalekanium armor, but the thing is already 50lbs as it is.
