Description
People were shouting and cheering for their local and out-of-state athletes competing in their particular weight categories. To Tracey, it was background noise, something to be tuned out.

At the moment, Tracey's main focus was Rayna and as the bout wore on, with the gals each scoring a half-point, Tracey was discovering Ranya was getting more fiercer, more determined with every minute that went by. However, getting more pumped up wasn't enough to overcome and overwhelm an opponent, as Ranya's overall strength was beginning to flag and Tracey sensed it.

Ranya attempted several trips to convert to throws but Tracey blocked the tries each time and with each successive try, Rayna was running out of gas.

The time on the scoreboard was a minute left in the bout-- Sixty seconds before the end. Time to put this chick away before she pulls some unexpected surprise on me, Tracey thought, grabbing hold of Ranya one more time, shifting her weight and using the best pulling and tugging to get her off-balance. This time, the strategy worked and Ranya was forced down onto the thick mats; Tracey's favorite method of choice to combat, getting up close and personal grappling down on the mats.

As small smile crossed Tracey's lips as she grabbed hold of Ranya's right arm while shifting around for best position. She was attempting for Juji-Gatame or cross-arm-bar but somehow managed to lay on her belly while still maintaining her grip. Slipping her legs around and underneath, Tracey held on the wrist tightly and raised her back off the mat. Ranya tried valiantly to escape but she ultimately knew she couldn't continue with her arm and elbow joint starting to become painfully hyper-extended.

Ranya slapped down the mat hard and the bout was over. Tracey won.

The referee indicted, "Ippon!" by submission and after the young ladies released each other, they rose to their feet, and returned to their starting positions. The referee gestured toward Tracey that she was the winner, and after bowing to show respect to her opponent, she was the first to approach Ranya to give her a supportive hug and tell her she did good, even though she lost the match.

Heading away from the tatami and strolling confidently back to her group gathered in a spot not far away, Tracey was welcomed with warm congratulations by her teammates and Sensei Erika. Tracey wore an easy, confident smile as she accepted the praise but in the back of her mind, she was thinking not to get too overconfident. It was still pretty early in the tournament and basically, anything could happen.

She wondered about who her next opponent would be and how tough would that gal be.
