Hopefully these things can live up to the standards of durability and reliability set by the mythical GG1's and AEM-7's, but dang the styling leaves a LOT to be desired. Β Just what the heck is it with European designers wanting their rolling stock to have as little sense of cultural history as possible and look instead as 'blandly polished' as they can? Β The light housings are the only things that have any personality on the ACS64.

yes the ACS64 does leave much to be desired but, its what they went with and hopefully they'll have better luck then the HHP-8 did

I saw one of these go by in Morrisville today heading into Trenton. Didn't get any pics of it though.

It's good to see that the replacement for the malfunction-prone Hippos and the increasingly creaky Toasters is on its way.

I don't mind how it looks.Β  What matters is whether or not it will meet its specs and perform reliably in service.

i honestly like the like my self a little. yes i hope these work much better then the HHP-8s. The AEM-7 proved it self time and time again over the pastΒ  30 years. i hope they save at least one AEM-7and/or HHP-8

It's a pity that the legacy control systems (due to obsolete or out-of-production braking and traction system microcontrollers) are going to be a pain for preservation efforts to restore.

sadly so. it would most likely not be a functional prevered engine if they did.

now if only Amtrak chose designers that didn't take "inspiration" from the hideousness of European cars for it's design, BLECH!Β
