The bluish light's heat attracts the creature's prey - fish which hunt by using infrared vision. When the fish gets close enough, the powerful muscles in the creature's hand close the fingers - breaking through the layer of ice and trapping the fish inside the hand like a cage. It then uses its taloned feet to kill the fish by spearing it.
Me: Although the creature appears whiteish in colour during the day, I wanted to draw him at night so you can see the body heat adaptation. I also figured that the creature can recede the glow when it needs to be hidden, and concentrate it to increase brightness in luring/confusing prey situations

it looks like it has skin like a mirror. in a surrounding were most everything is simply white that would be very effective. especially scenes snow is very reflective anyway.

Your artwork never ceases to amaze me...but if I can just say something....I just cant see this creature being in a winter setting. Its body doesn't grant that feel. It looks more metallic, alien, lizard-like and those things seem not to bode well in a frozen area. I think its the shine streaks around him.
Maybe putting in some more detail into the skin could change it...but that's just me.
Other than that, I really do like the design.

Hey I just wanted to say that we wanted to go for something truly alien, unpredictably different-looking for his environment since he is an alien and we can only speculate what other lifeforms could look like.
