Guao...!!!

My lady and I were in the bead store yesterday. As I was going through the discount metal beads I came across a brass plated butterfly pendent. My lady asked what it was, and I handed it to her telling her it was not an iron butterfly. I then sang a line to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida to her. The weird thing was that on the drive home the full version of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida was being played on the radio (all 17 minutes of it, not the short radio version)! Weird and weird!

Charles, thanks so much for the great story - and the links, too! Hehe - there was one time my grandfather and I were in his car back in the 1970's, and we didn't have access to a clock. He turns on the radio, saying "I wonder what time it is", and suddenly a radio announcer says "It's time for the such-and-such show!" Well, not exactly what my granddad was hoping for, but his question was answered, at least...
It's always a pleasure to hear the original version of that song in all it's glory... back in the days when hearing the whole suite on the radio was almost "unheard" of (please excuse the pun). What a great tune... one that stood the test of time and is still used as a blueprint for so many things that followed it.

Your very welcome, Charles.
I still get a general idea of the time from listening to my local classic rock station (the same one from my story) when I am working in my shop. I don't put my watch on because of the grit and sawdust that can get under the band while I work. The station, KISM kism.com/ , also streams on the web; but alas, they will no longer allow us to stream media at work. So I went out and purchased a small boom box to take to work.
I just found it odd that after I made a joke about the song and group we then heard the full version as the lead track on the request hour of the radio. (We did not call it in )
I think as music progresses, the better groups look back to the groups before them for inspiration. A lot of the performers from the '60 and '70 had classical training before they embraced rock.
My guilty pleasure is still Acid Rock (Psychedelic Rock)! White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane being the the song referred to as a very good example of the Psychedelic Rock movement; what with all the Lewis Carroll drug references. And for the record, I am not a drug user, I just like the music; what with the Navy and my other jobs having a zero tolerance for dug use, I never acquired the habit. (passing urinalyses since 1983! )

Wow - yes, I can imagine that in a wood shop it can get pretty uncomfortable wearing a watch... I just use my cell myself; I keep it in my pocket - usually I wear cargo pants just for that purpose.
It's funny how those things happen, though - kind of like a memorable coincidence that stays in memory long after it happened... a great story to share with others, for sure!
Yes, I agree about that view on music... although I have always believed that every generation has a right to promote its own heroes, I am still partial to the older vets of rock with their textured backgrounds.
hehe - and Acid Rock just so happens to be one of mine as well! My attraction to it was strictly creative - I just felt that it was a great alternative to bubblegum. And thanks for the great links too, by the way!

Oh, I use cellphone also; that is if I remember to take it out to the shop.
Too true!
I do not deny that each generation has its great ones! But few and far between are there pop artists that make it to the top, stay there, and are enjoyed decades later. The Monkees ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monk… ) come to mind from the '60 and "70. Some of the Grunge bands from the '80 and '90 have replay value even today.
Being an anime fan, I have become a fan of the composer, arranger and musician Yoko Kanno ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoko_Kan… ). She worked on two of my favorite anime, Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell TV series.
Tank from Cowboy Bebop www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6jCJZ…
Inner Universe from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex with lyrics in Russian, English, and Latin www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWhM_x…
Psychedelic Rock goes well with some of your mandalas!
Glad you liked the links; Peace, man

hehe - right on! We used to have Pandora tuned in on my shop floor, but they cut off streaming media on us, too...
And yes, you're right - bands like the Monkees from that era did have so much more staying power... I mean, there are bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden who did stand out in the '90's as well, and have stood the test of time, but the '60's and '70's produced so many notables...
I never did see or hear any of those anime references - thanks much for the links (as always!) - it's always a fun thing to experience different perspectives on that subject.
And thanks much for the compliment! haha - well, I'll do my best to rock on! Peace Bro!
