This is an image of an old general store for the book illustration projectI did recently Kado: Lost Treasure of the Kadohadacho amzn.to/2NhwMN2 for sale at link, yes I’m trying to get a commission. But anyways this painting. Oh there’s something mesmerizing about planning out a piece like this. What would have been for sale in 1818 at a country general store? From the fabric prints, to the colors of glass, the tools and the wagon wheels. That cashier machine is original to the era, right down to the decorative designs. A pallet of beaver hides in the corner getting shipped back to the mainland. The little museum is apparently historical, dedicated to Andrew Jackson and had one of his battle jackets and one of his swords. I picked for this one a sword of his that is now on display at the hermitage. It had an odd chain guard which I found very interesting and a presumably ivory handle. This is obviously a parade sword, not a fighting one, but oh so beautiful. I’d have to say my favorite part of this piece though is the yarn hanging from the ceiling, freshly dyed with vegetable dyes, naturally.
