Research Notes: According to Professor Sada, Smeargle began their artisanal journey in prehistoric times when they were originally fire types, scaring away Pokémon and hunting smaller prey with burning charcoal on their tails. Their fur would become covered in ash and soot, which Smeargle eventually used to express themselves by finger painting on the cavern walls of where they call home.
