Not all people with superpowers want to be superheroes or super-villains... cases like Ace Carrington (my take on Chiro's father) just want to lead a normal life and stay under the radar, but such a desire isn't fulfilled so easily, especially when you and your spouse come from another planet and have cybernetic monkeys for companions; even before Chiro was born, the Carrington family had some "complications" with blending in with the locals of every planet they visited in their quest for the foretold Chosen One, but never was that more-so an issue then when they crash landed on Earth and discovered-- via supernatural signs-- that the hero they've been searching the cosmos for is going to be their own baby!Thankfully, nobody working for real newspapers take the extraordinary details of their extraterrestrial lives seriously (if they remember those reports), so the closest thing this family of oddballs ever got to a paparazzi was the nosiness of occasional tabloid reporters-- especially Platinum Coast's most popular sensational news magazine "The Eye"-- and nobody takes tabloid articles seriously enough to know any of the stories are actually real... except, perhaps, for the Men in Black, who (in my fandom's cannon history) had disbanded during the golden era of Buy-n-Large due to the fact everyone on Earth was evacuating the planet and were bond to encounter life in other parts of the universe inevitably. Around the decade Chiro was born on Earth, however, that memory-altering secret agency was making a comeback, and although they are a tad less strict about keeping the alien world hidden in some cases-- such as the mishap when "The Crescendolls" were abducted, altered, and enslaved by the late Lord Darkwood-- other cases ended up being the kind where a flash from the neuralyzer or use of other mind-altering equipment proved necessary, but since (as Antauri said) no memory can be erased entirely, they've come to only resort to that after all the more "trustworthy" individuals agree to keep things hush-hush for the time being in exchange for keeping their memories, and even then, a decent cover story and all the "proof" needs to be properly prepared before the mass population is made to forget the more... sensitive things.
No memory alterations were used during Chiro's Earthling days, but these special agents knew these knew parents needed some extra help in case their son's powers awoken too early-- which thankfully wasn't the case-- but also because any failure to let Chiro see the doctor regularly due to lack of background/citizenship paperwork (what are they supposed to tell the DMV? That they come from Planet Shuggazoom?!) would get Ace and Zoey sued for parental neglect, which is something they intend to avoid like the plague.
Over a decade later (intergalactic time) Chiro unknowingly continued the family "tradition" when the team's final battle against the Dark One Worm was seen all over the planet, and wound up in the "Eye" tabloid with semi-comedic results. At first there was no need to wipe anyone's memories as the entire planet rejoiced in their salvation, but realizing the threat of extraterrestrial attack had increased had caused quite a tizzy to government bodies around the world, and before anyone knew it the United Nations building was in an uproar debating over whether to upgrade planet-wide security against the next invasion or to keep their world just as it is to avoid Earthlings being invaders themselves via the Darkwood Incident. In the end, MIB was able to convince those in power to "forget about it" and only wiped half the minds of the human race with them... the other half-- most of which are part of or descendants of the Axiom Manual Society (those who want to keep the memory that outer space is part of at least 700 years of Earths history and thus want uphold intergalactic brotherhood throughout the cosmos)-- ended up playing a part in making the masquerade stating that the giant space worm attack was part of a new movie that was given a world wide sneak preview, yet discuss what REALLY HAPPENED behind closed doors and in popular tabloids such as "The Eye"... the eye that has been watching, and is watching still.
