Description
"Kids Interest?" Really? So all the manga/anime/game fans out there are "kids?" NiceSaw this at a Borders the other day (after reading that Otaku USA magazine! dude! Fruits Basket!)
I laughed and was somewhat annoyed by this at the same time. It always bugs me that anime/manga/games and animation are thought to be for kids by the general public. I've come across this several times, even within my own family. Animation, games, and Japanese shows/comics are not just for kids! Just ask the hundreds of teen and adult cosplayers and the teenage/adult people I always see in the manga section of that same Borders!
I admit I used to think anime and manga stuff was stupid I know right! me! But then I gave it a chance and now its one of my obsessions! If a lot of the people who think this way actually gave this awesome genre of entertainment a chance, I bet they'd be surprised!
So to all my fellow fans out there, I'm sorry people are like this and keep loving animanga! And to those people who think like this, well, ur wrong. Some of us may be kids at heart, but we're not kids!
p.s. u can tell I'm in between drawings right now. Thats always when I start uploading Motivational/Demotivational Posters!
Update 6/14/11: This was so stupid! I had to fight to keep this picture! I was forced by the DA staff to fill out a Permission form for this picture! And it's my picture!! I had to give myself permission to use this photo! Oh no! I used this picture without my permission! I'm gonna sue myself! Good grief, there really are some stupid rules!
update 4/21/2011: OMG!!! Look at all the comments, faves, and page views!! Thank you sooo much everyone!
Hooray for respectful debates, discussion, and opinions! Y'all r awesome!

Yeah. Because it's totally normal to let your kids watch animes like Higurashi, Umineko, Elfen Lied and/or Hentai/Ecchi/Yuri/Yaoi.

I'm talking about really small kids here. Not teens.

seriously! I heard Elfen Lied is really intense! and anything with a focus on sexual themes should be kept away from kids. aren't they growing up fast enough as is?

Elfen Lied if you haven't watched...yes it's really intense. Normally animes don't manage to make me cry but this...oh I cried so hard. (Mainly because of the scene with the dog. Bastards deserved what they got.) but still. Unless you want your kids watching flying limbs, blood and core I wouldn't advise you to show them.

that's what I've heard. creepy and depressing! might just have to believe everyone and skip that one (I'm squemish!) so if I, a 21 year old, can't handle it, just imagine how a small child would be like!! O___o

I suppose it all depends on the type of kid. If you're mature enough at a young age, go ahead watch Fruits Basket...or Naruto. But, most kids aren't mature enough and they prooobably shouldn't have put Otaku USA in the kid's interest section. I probably would have laughed xD

I think it all depends on the kid though..Example i admit im kinda a kid (gonna be a teen soon though) and i LOVE FRUBA when something suggestive happens i usually ignore it or just make a o-e face xD when something sort of gory happens (well the worst thing is like a nose bleed except when Hatori hurt his eye) it doesn't effect me much. I understand keeping your kids away from TONS of violence (cuz they might get nightmares) but really, whats the worst thing suggestive things can do? Honestly correct me if im wrong, if your mature enough, it doesnt matter if your 8,12,16, or 20, you should be able to read/watch what you want :]

well, hopefully they mean pre-teens (11-13) also i think if your really mature, you can see anime and manga as a kid. But i dont think anyone younger then 9 should watch/read anime/manga, unless its something like pokemon/sailor moon (which is aimed towards kids)

yeah, i agree. just as there are live action shows aimed toward adultsm some for teens, and some for children, there too are kids anime, teen anime, and adult anime. i guess its hard for them to categorize a magazine based on such a widely varied topic. However, they could put it under special interest. and yeah, there are a few bad things in Naruto and Fruits Basket, but ur right, its definitely NOT the worst anime out there! I'd let my kids watch Fruits Basket...if I had kids, that is! lol!
thanks for the comment

Oh, wow! okay, some anime may be for kids, but it's totally for adults too. and quite a lot of anime and manga is definitely not kid-friendly. All that drama, language, innuendo... oh, yeah, that's totally for kids. :/

Seriously? There's lots of anime/manga that are DEFINITELY not made for children...maybe if the bookstore people actually looked inside of the stuff they were selling...then they'd think differently.

heck, a lot of stuff in anime/manga isn't what people in the US would consider appropriate for kids. Look at all the abuse in Fruits Basket, for example.

The-Sunlight In reply to Annie-epicjactations [2012-06-22 21:15:26 +0000 UTC]
Well, those ages aren't that bad I suppose. Although I don't think I'd be comfortable letting my brother who's around your age reading Fruits Basket...
And my opinion probably stems from being older and used to more tame things for little kids like how it was when I was that age.

you can usually find them in the magazine racks of bookstores and occasionally the magazine racks of supermarkets, especially Shonen Jump. Otaku USA is usually at the bookstores like Barnes & Noble
