The height differences between characters were intentional; they're older.I think that aang would end up a little taller than Sokka, but Sokka would make up for that with muscle mass.
I hope you guys get the flower reference.
EDIT: I'll just go ahead and include an explanation...
I believe it was in the episode titled The Southern Raiders; the morning after the scene where Zuko intrudes on Sokka and Suki's little romantic tent set-up, it shows Sokka momentarily fiddling with/putting together a lei. Which we can only assume was meant to tell us he had gotten laid. :]

Somehow though, I could tell they were older even if you didn't say anything or if Aang wasn't taller than Sokka... just because he seemed to have GROWN in other places as well lol... I'm of course looking at it in an artistic point of view
