This is my entry for the Deviantart Community Pride Flag of June 2017. I wanted to do a piece about falling in love and the thrill it gives, but at the same time, showing the difficulty of accepting unconventional love.The woman falling is alight with the said love and I wanted to show the liveliness it gave her movement (hair and fabric). And of course, she is alive with power, which is why I chose to make some parts of her body glow. The hair to represent femininity, the heart and the reaching hand symbolizing her focus being outward herself.
However, I chose a very stiff model, curled up on herself to express the fear one might feel when being confronted with strong emotions. In my mind, the balloons she holds on to are not meant to be wings, freeing her from earthly concerns, but illusions confining her to loneliness.
Fun fact: both women are actually the same model.
This piece is very special to me; it is the first one I achieve without the help of a tutorial, and the theme is dear to me indeed.
