Funny indeed. Once I was walking near the sea and began to find shells... for my delight, I ended with almost 100 shells... for my horror, several were of cone snails.

yep. I have a few brushes that i made but i never use them.

I've been trying the Sugimori style, but I can't seem to get the right..... shading(?), that and my lineart tends to be significantly thicker.

I always have a hard time with the line art too. You have to base it off of the size of the picture. I think for this one I used a 9px sized brush for the line art but i know it varies from picture to picture.
As far as shading goes i just study his official picture of that pokemon and go from there.

Yeah, the biggest part I have trouble duplicating is the splotchy look in the color. I guess that's what I admire most about it.

I just keep the eraser tools opacity to about 30 percent and just dab the area.
