Description
Jordan Wacey Spears of Redding, California, holds on to his bucking bull during the bull riding competition on April 19, 2014 in Red Bluff, CA. Spears held of for the required 8 seconds, but was offered a re-ride.Do you want to see more rodeo photos? I'm only uploading a few here, so to see the rest, check out my Facebook page!
Before I get harassed again by people claiming animal cruelty, look right in front of the bull's back legs. Do you see that green strap? It's a bucking strap. Meaning the animal is NOT HARMED, he is bucking to get the strap off of his body because it's uncomfortable.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them idiots. I think the word that it more fitting would be "stubborn."
They're so set in their ways that they don't want to hear opinions from others that might differ to theirs.

And lots are uneducated and "protest" for the wrong things. A handful of dolts complain about rodeos, but do they really know anything about them at all? Do they really know what the heck a cowboy really does on a daily basis? That's all rodeos are is a competition for those skills, but you get idjets whining Oh they're cruel. Ok, then maybe you need to protest that entire profession of a cowboy. Stop riding horses while you're at it because how else do you think they get broke? But I digress Idjets be idjets and some are more stubborn than others. I just wish they'd put their "care" into more worthy causes like donating money to an animal shelter, help spread the news about spaying and neutering, help stop dogs and cats from being TRULY abused and put to death every day by the thousands. Or if they're that compassionate over horses, why not protest the slaughter of America's wild mustangs? So yeah, I call them idjets because they are. "Noble" is the feelings, but pointless as they're ignoring what true cruelty is as is it's pointless to put words on a screen and not do anything for real to stop any abuse. Hell, they need to go and protest dog and cat shows. After all, those are supporing pointless breeding of MORE pets and new breeds while millions of others are given up and abandoned and put to sleep each year. Breeders add loads to that problem, but you never hear anyone complaining about that. Voice for the voiceless? Sorry, whiners, ya'll are doing a really crappy job!

Lol, I wasn't expecting to wake up and read an essay today!
I find many people whine about things they don't understand, but if they took the time to learn and understand something, they may very well change they're minds about it.
I also wish they volunteered or donated money to a shelter or rescue, instead, they all just seem to find my pictures and proceed to tell me what a terrible person I am.

You knew the animal cruelty cries were coming when you posted this picture (and rodeos are. There are other ways we can enjoy animals without forcing them to buck out of pain, discomfort or whathaveyou).
It's still a good shot, but I prefer a lot of your other ones, where the animals are perfectly comfortable. Your birds and jellyfish are especially beautiful. I'd hope you'd focus more on shots like those in the future.

Thank you! I've been trying to get my foot in to the door to be invited to shoot major sporting events, which is why I was and probably will be for a very long time, shooting rodeos and other horse events.
I like those too, it's much easier to focus on an animal when I don't have 100000 other things going on.

I don't understand why people from Europe think this is hurting the animals. It's not at all like what they do in Spain, it's simply a strap at the front of his back legs that makes him feel uncomfortable.

He's only in it for 8 seconds, then they are left alone with a bunch of other bulls.
Have you ever had a pet? I surely hope not, because that pet was meant to be free with other dogs or cats or rats or hamsters or fish. It belongs in freedom, if we want to think your way.

Wait, so you do have pets? Or do you not have pets? If you do, you're not a very good activist.
kudos to you for not eating meat. I did that for a year, and I lost so much weight and muscle mass that I had to start eating it when I joined the military so I could keep up with everyone else. Plus, the military doesn't offer vegetarian meals in basic training.
my excuse is you and I obviously grew up very differently. I grew up in a place where we ride our horses, not just look at them saying how pretty they are because riding them must be abuse! We use our animals for work and play, and are still just as loved as any member of our family.

I can't with you. I simply can't. It's impossible to try to describe your lifestyle and way of thinking to someone who doesn't want to get out of their own box and learn how other people live. Have a great day!

It is a awesome capture, the strengh of the bull is stunning !
PS:I think that Drusilla76 say that because an animal never buck for no reason, they are bucking because they are happy or unconfortable (like here)
In fact in rodeo, animals buck because of pain. Indeed the thread which is in the back of them is here to be pulled "violently" by men and make animal kick (of pain) At least I think Drusilla76 say "poor animal" because she or he know this sad reality (this bull didn't die because of this act but it is could be badly seen by animals protector)
PS: can you correct if there are some faults please ? I want to perfect my english

I agree, but it's no where near as bad as what happens in the rest of the world, where the push hooks and claws in to the skin of the bull and then kill them.
And your English was excellent!

I agree too, between rodeo and corrida best is rodeo because bulls aren't kill after a long time of "play"
Thanks

Animal cruelty? What about human cruelty? What happened to no armor and wearing a cowboy hat? I thought that was the way it was done, real men and no safety equipment, risk of death and dismemberment and what not?
Sweet shot though. Looks like fun.

There was only one cowboy who rode a bull without a helmet this time, it's pretty much in the rules to have to wear some kind of head protection, cause if that bull's foot comes down on your head, he'd squash you like an egg!

I'm sure. But would that helmet stop the bull anyway? Has it been tested in all configurations? And why can't they make it look like a cowboy hat? Just doesn't seem right without it. At least to my never been to a rodeo mind.
