Description Emerald Tree Boa

Did you know?
These boas are non-venomous and are native to South America in the rain forests.
They can grow to be up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) in length.
Baby Emerald Tree Boas can be various shades of light to dark orange, or even brick red, before turning green after living for 9 to 12 months.
The zigzag on its back are commonly referred to as "Lightning Bolts."

Aside from playing with my tiny grand son, not too much. Just sitting around enjoying a cold sunny day with the family. And you?

Hello,

it's quite an impressive shot. I appreciate a lot all the details of the snakescales, and also the white patterns on the vivid greens. The light gives very nice volumes. The little spark in the eye is just perfect to remind us that this reptile is animated. The DOF is well managed. The background is great.

There is one thing I would reconsider : the composition. For sure, I do not know if you had some technical constraints and how was the environment. Logically, I would I have chosen a vertical format to give space in the direction of the eye.

Comment Month!

I love the fact that the color of it's skin isn't that vibrant. And the posture it is in, peaceful and resting, that's a really nice capture. And it slowly blurs, leaving the focus on it's head, curves, the eye. It's great!

It's Commenting Month at %CRPhotography

It's a gorgeous photo; the color is great. You've avoided a popular habit in Reptile Photography, a bright animal and black background. I like how this is the more real blue.

I like the focus on the snake and tree on the right, and this lessening once you get more to the left.

Maybe the snake was originally in the middle, and you focused it on the snake - in the middle of the camera - and cropped it by hand (or edited focus in post-processing).

Nonetheless, it looks natural and pretty.

I read the other comments, however, and once pointed out, I did notice the light spots, both of a dark and lighter shade, on the lift side of the photo, but really, it's a bit everywhere on the edges. Shot through glass, I assume? In that case, you managed to keep out real reflections very well.

Thank you! I actually shot it how you see it. The snake was on the side of the picture when I shot it.

And yes, those spots are from the glass, because I was in fact shooting through glass.

It's a good photo, the snake and (more importantly) his eye is sharp, but I'm distracted by
the reflections and dust flecks (or finger smears) dominating the left-hand side of the image.
While it compromises the shutter speed and aperture, a polarizer filter would eliminate them
and give the colors a bit of a pop.

Once again, i'm fascinated by the facts you provided and feel quite in ease to love this snake provided its non-venomous! But obviously not as fascinated as the lovely shot you took! Specially the focus is so perfect...the texture, the folds, the yellow under its eye, and the striking lightning bolts its like i can move my hand towards the screen and touch it, pick it out from its peaceful oblivious resting place! The background is also great for the shot. I wish i can see this species in its variant colors as well!

I wish I could see the different colored ones too! Unfortunately, the museum seemed to have only adults.  It would be interesting to see Emerald Tree Boas that weren't actually green!
