I've been told it's pretty difficult. I'm still learning it myself and so far the hardest thing I've discovered to do is tuning it and trying to play right-handed.

I hate doing a fullfledged critique, especially when they want me to rate someone else's "Vision." How would I know? Plus I don;tt hink I'm good enough to ae the temerity to tell others anything than what I like myself.
On that note: I like this pic; it's laid back, idyllic and just pretty. I could wish the details were a little crisper maybe and that there maybe could've been a smidge more headroom, or seeing if you could've waited to get more light in the window, but that doesn't take away that this would be the kind of stuff of memories. To be able to think back and remember walking in to see someone whiling away the time in the glow of the afternoon sun like this would be beautiful. Good Job

Thank you! And thanks for the suggestions. This was my first time playing with so little headroom, so I appreciate the honesty with that.
And howdy neighbor! I live in the next town over.

Thank you! I'm still learning but I'm practicing with Country and Bluegrass. One day, I hope to play the guitar solo at the beginning of "Crazy Train" by Ozzy Osbourne on the banjo.

I think there is too much on left side. The right side is almost empty.
Should work on composition/ crop here.
Light is interesting and colors just like I like xD
I love to draw that scene

You're playing a 5 string banjo with a pick? That's not how Pete Seeger teaches it! And it's not how Earl Scruggs teached it either.

I don't have one of those fancy pick thingies for my thumb like I see many banjo players with. Plus, my fingers stumble between the strings and I find it easier with a pick. For now anyways.

Very cool. Can't say I'm overly fond of the Banjo, but I will say that you're the only person I know who knows how to play. Great picture too.

Heehee, I'm still learning. I had to learn to play it right-handed because the banjo isn't a left-handed friendly instrument.

Couldn't you learn to play it left hand? Just, learn it upside down or something? Now understand that I do not know how to play any instrument at all.

with a 4 string banjo I would, but with this one being a 5 string and if you look where my left hand you'll see that extra knob. the 5th string doesn't go all the way to the top of the instrument and is attached where that knob is.
Plus, I don't wanna be the Jimi Hendrix of the banjo.

Well we all know how much I love the babes, however I don't think the husband would appreciate a houseful of crazed women.

Thanks! I'm actually still just learning. The banjo isn't a left handed friendly instrument, so I have to learn it right handed. Plus I have no idea how to read music, I either listen to it and try to copy it or watch someone and mimic them.

lukiesyaya In reply to cheslah [2013-11-25 00:32:18 +0000 UTC]
Keep trying! I never thought about it, but it seems it would work either way. But I know nothing about the banjo. There are a few free or low cost apps for your phone, etc. to learn to read music/play instruments. I saw one demoed on Shark Tank recently. A quick search should get you some info that might help.

Yes it does! I esp. love the old folk songs that started the blue grass genre, SongCatcher is one of my favorite movies, I like the dueling banjo scene in Dlivrence,...many yrs. ago i had a relative who could play Old Joe Clark on the banjo.
I have a huge collection of bluegrass and folk CDs most of which are collections of artists!
