I promised I would do it on my Twitter so here it is! This is a heavy modification of Advanced Fireflies designed to work more efficiently and with more variety. There’s a lot that went into this effect so please read below for details!

Also do you like my gifs? I'm thinking of giffing all my effects just to make them a little more interesting...

PLEASE NOTE: When you first load this effect into MMD, it will look as if there is nothing there. Please use the controller and turn up the ‘Particle Size’ morph to see the fireflies. This is super low on loading to give you more scope on size when animating ^^

Mod details

-This pack contains two types of effects: 'FirefliesAdvanced_spectrum', and 'FirefliesAdvanced_spectrum (Editor's Code)'. The first requires the KiraKira Controller to function, while the second does not. Please use whichever effect you find easiest x3

-The firefly particles move in such a way due to their placement in the texture file. They are not at the centre, and as the effect rotates the texture at the centre, it appears as if the firefly is actually flying erratically around a point. Zazi was the mastermind behind that, its so simple yet such a clever way of rendering!

-I have also created a motion data for what I believe reflects the natural way that fireflies move. This motion data you can see in the gif above, minus the part where they get brighter and then dimmer, it's just the movement. Please feel free to use this motion data and edit it to suit your own work ^^

-This pack also contains 14 spectrum colours in both types of effect. These include:
-Red
-Orange (+pastel)
-Yellow (+pastel)
-Green (+pastel)
-Cyan
-Blue
-Purple (+pastel)
-Pink (+pastel)
-White

(One of these days I’ll work out how to make colour sliders for particle effects, but until then, enjoy all these versions!)

-The effect now spawns 25% more particles upon loading, and can still be adjusted to a value of 0 using the controller

-The natural LightBloom has been increased from 0.0 to 0.5, however I still recommend using AutoLuminous4 for more control over the glow

-The speed of rotation has been decreased to a more realistic movement

-And most importantly and excitingly, I managed to fully translate Beamman’s KiraKira Controller! It was a ball-ache as I had to find ways around the controller crashing (it wasn’t designed to be edited) but after a few hours I managed to get it functioning in English and Japanese! The translation will activate depending on which language you’re using in MMD, and can be used for any KiraKira particle effects! The controller features are:

-Increase and decrease the size of the particles
-Increase and decrease the spawn rate of each particle
-Make the particles flash quickly, slowly or not at all
-Increase or decrease the space in between the particles corresponding to the X, Y and Z axis
-Make the particles move quickly, slowly or independently of each other
