The smooth-fronted caiman is most common in small lakes, swamps and fast-flowing streams with stony or rocky bottoms.
This species of caiman is also often seen near waterfalls and clear waters, which is remarkable because most crocodilians avoid strong currents and prefer to lie in murky water
To protect the skin from these currents and hard stones, the scales are very firm, thick and close together to form a strong armor

The smooth-fronted caiman is nocturnal and lives solitary or in pairs with overlapping territories
The caiman's diet consists of smaller prey, anything that is edible is taken
The teeth are curved backwards which is very suitable for eating invertebrates
Furthermore, fish, mammals, reptiles and amphibians are also very well eaten
