Description
Just got into this wonderful series (finishing up s1 att), guess who's me fave?Currently working on a fic with a pretty typical plot featuring Geordi and Data, but I've found I spend quite a bit of time pondering Data's functions through Geordi. This came from that.
While I understand that props and their design aren't cheap (and that you could say that the appeal of Data is his journey to humanity, not how he works), I'm always dissatisfied with the portrayal of how he and his "brothers" dissasemble. It looks too simple for how complex the Soong androids are, so I try coming up with explanaitions to myself. Granted, I have no knowledge in mechanics/engineering and little more than that in computers so it's all made up.
And then I got bored, so I drew it out. I won't go into detail on how I think it would work, since I do that (at length) in the fic. Was still good challenge though, I've never done cybernetic stuff, before.
Data's head is too big and his nose too small. It didn't look that way in the rough version. Argeth.

This is very impressive. It also threw me for a new paradigm; he seems so human that it's easy to forget that he is made of metal. It is amazing how he can be so gentle. It does explain how he is Hulk strong and Iron man tough. The part that still makes him the Data we know and love is the bit that's still covered by his polymer skin: the positronic brain. I find it really easy to accept him as an emotional humanoid being because after reading "I, Robot", the function of positronic brains make sense. I think you drew his face really well, actually. I can't get enough Data!

I just started watching the series. He is my absolute favorite! I like the way you drew him. You captured his personality really well.

This is one of the best depictions of Data on DeviantArt! I am plugging through Season 1 of TNG right now, mostly because of Data, the most intriguing character on the show! I like the expression you've given him, it seems very appropriate for his...personality, if I may use this anthropomorphization. Well done!

Oh. My. GOD. This is amazing! I love when android inner workings are revealed! It makes it hit home a lot harder. I think you've done a magnificent job. Well done!
I concur. The assembly/disassembly presented in TNG looks far too simplistic. I think this is far more realistic.

Thank you! Yeah, for the abandoned fic I based this off, I made up some crap about how when the head is separated from the body the plates fuse into segments for protection or something. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it XD

I like this. Did you look up muscle anatomy for the shoulder/arm? It looks like you did. And the mucles also looks like armor which is awesome. Are your fics on here?

(Apologies for the slow reply, I didn't see this!)
Thanks! Yeah, basic anatomy references are some of my best friends, and it is supposed to act as armor while simulating muscle movement.
At this time I have no fics on DA, only two TNG fics at fanfiction.net. If you're still interested, they can be found here .

Tshhh. You ripped his shirt. NOT THAT I MIND.... But isn't that Kirk's job?
Anyway, if technology was ever truly sexy, it would be because Data's networks look like this.

He ripped his skin, too, so I think he's trying to show up Kirk. Silly Data, you can't do that! XD

Ohohoho, but he did! In Star Trek: First Contact, his skin was burned off. Well, kind of his skin. Long story.
Eh, who am I to talk, I haven't seen it yet. [*reads summaries because I can't stand the suspense

More like his skin was removed, replaced with real skin, which then got melted off. You're right, he has everybody beat.
Watch First Contact. Now. Is the best of the movies. Actually that means you should watch it last...

Wow, that'#s pretty impressive, especially for somebody who has never done cybernetic designs before, as you say
I always had enough trouble working out what goes on in data's HEAD never mind the rest of him XD Nicely explored.

Thank you much! I try staying out of Data's head, as the last android head I played with started turning nutty. Poor B4.
Do you have an account on FF.n under the same name? Your KR fic "Knight Industries Two Thousand" is one of my favorites out there.
Sorry if that was kinda creepy.
