Description
2011 EDIT: This Charizard is Derpy McDerpDerp. For one that is better in every way, go here: [link]Oh guh.... x.X This guy was HARD. Oh gah, where to begin...
- I started with the legs and based them off a bear, since a bear also has a stocky, flat footed stance, but ran into massive problems when I got to the hip bones. I must have drawn them at least five times before finally setting on the final look, basing them off of a dragon skeleton illustration I found. The biggest probelem was the semi-3/4 position I picked, which resulted in a need to apply foreshortening and rotation to many elements of the drawing. Just getting the spine positioned right was a pain. 2011 EDIT: That pelvis does NOT work. His legs would be falling off. It would hurt.
- The wings were fairly simple, but took a bit of trial and error in the shoulder positioning. I decided to give Charizard two sets of shoulder blades. One thing I was certain of was to not base his arm shoulders on a theropod dinosaur. If you look at any bipedal dinosaur, its shoulders are vertical alongside the ribs and the arms attach at the front of the chest, but one look at any Charizard art and its obvious his shoulders are horizontal and held at the side, with the blades running alongside the spine on the back. This made the two sets of shoulders run alongside each other, wing the wings attached higher up, to allow room for the wing muscles to attach to the sternum.
- Ribs and Spine took FOREVER. Since there's a slight angle to the body, I couldn't figure out how to position the spine that made it look right. I still think it looks like it's in the center of the body rather than the other side. x.X
- In the nature of laziness...erhem...I mean, keeping with the pattern of my other skeleton drawings, I only drew one limb out of each pair, but with the angle on the body, it would look highly incomplete if I hadn't done the right leg.
Edit: Wait, what? My internet connection is so slow that by the time the page loaded to show that yes, this deviation did submit, I already had 3 favorites?

First, wow, I love the oddball realistic stuff like this!
Second, do you mind if I color the skull and use it in one of my own realistic-pokemon projects? I just need a pokemon's skull on the desert floor, and since you seem to be the only one who's drawn these, I was hoping I could just borrow it, lol.

Sorry for not replying sooner--sure, with credit given and a link back to here, that'd be fine.

Thanks! Here's a link to the Skull by itself (watermarked so no one else can use it): [link]
And here's what I wanted to use it for originally: [link]
